I hope he doesn't talk about the people just letting their horses run off in the sunset via the mid-west, because they can't afford to feed them anymore.

Oh Bryant Gumbel.

People watch that show? I got freaked out by the reporter that looks like Grandpa Munster with AIDS.

justindew 05-16-2008 10:58 AM

I'm gonna start using "a-hole deluxe", if that's alright with you.

MisterB 05-16-2008 11:01 AM

I think it is Bob Costas anyway, Not BG

This is a real problem; the end of life experience for horses. There needs to be a humane solution to this. I just stumbled across a bit of information on pedigreequery that former NY sire Kettle Won was purchased at a slaughter auction. The owner is listed as Anstu Farm (I hope they enjoy their NY stallion awards for KW). He stands #50 on current NY sire list. He does not appear on any stallion search.

A PETA person on tv contended 90% of race horses end up slaughtered and Waldrop did not refute that.

I laughed, hysterically. I'm shocked that guy even gets air time. Should have been Oswald Cobblepott'ed at birth. Last time I saw a face like that, it had a hook through it.

As for BG, he's borderline pathetic/unwatchable. How he holds a job on TV, just escapes me. They will come to their senses sooner or later, and send him packing. One hopes so.

I don't quite know what you are talking about here but I'm going to assume they re-ran the episode from monday night?

what happens to horses after they leave the track is very real, and all the people who supported slaughter bans in the US without closing our borders to those who want to ship to mexico and canada need to see exactly what has happened.
it's sickening, but we have too many horses. Thoroughbreds are not the bulk of the problem, but they are the lightning rod.

this is what they do in puerto rico.....also not the greatest idea, but at least it's cheap, humane, and they aren't letting them starve to death somewhere in the country. Euthanasia has to be an option just like it is for dogs and cats...until breeders (of all breeds) control population numbers.

The horse racing industry keeps shocking the sensibilities and it needs a lot of improvement immediately. Mocking someone's appearance does no service.

The USA should ban the exportation for slaughter of all horses. If your option is more humane for the time being it must be considered. Furthermore, neutering needs to be an enforceable option.

of course they should.

but they haven't.

nor has ANYONE come up with a viable option to keep the vast numbers of unwanted horses in this country without just watching them all starve.

the sport of kings dark secret..bah blah blah..no merit to thise peace at all..when in fact it was the horseman that made the us slaughter ban happen

the number is closer to ten percent of horses slaughtered which equates to almost 30 percent of each years foal crop.

little cliff wasn't saved because of any sticker on his foal papers, he was bought out of a kill pen after his trainer ignored Kim Zito's request that she be called if he needed a home.

the TB industry DID play a large roll in getting the current bill passed, but that doesn't mean that it's enough, and it doesn't mean that there are not trainers all over this country selling their also-rans to meat middlemen.

I'm not saying that the piece wasn't sensationalized (what 'news' program isn't), but your 'facts' are no more accurate than his Matt.
