Show betting the Preakness?

I have a friend (really!) who is convinced this is the way to go. He thinks BB and his ouchy feet may be suspect on short rest, but is not mortally convinced of the fact. So his plan--find the horse next most likely to HTB (I don't think he's determined who that is yet), bet that horse to show (large) in case BB runs out. Even if BB comes in, he has a decent shot at getting his money plus 5% (or maybe even 10%) back. Of course his horse could also run out, but, hey, that's why they call it gambling.

I think he is a bit crazy, although if he kicks the bet with a smaller win ticket on his chosen horse, and a back up exacta (BB/his horse) it makes a little more sense. What do you guys think?

I am more inclined to find a playable bomb to HTB, play tris like BB/bomb/all and BB/all/bomb (with maybe a couple of extra punches for combos like BB/ Gayego/bomb) and move on.

The problem with this MOTO thinking is that it is highly unlikely there will be a disproportionate amount of money bet on Big Brown to show....in fact just the opposite. His place and show prices will most likely be high for a horse his price much like the Kentucky Derby as most realize that if he loses he is probably not going to finish second or third.

Check the pool a few minutes before the post..if the Bridge Jumpers are in - $2 show ALL. Head to the concession and realize that you could have just had 2 1/2 beers with the money you just threw away..... then remember Let it Ride "But if I win" and then realize you at least have a ticket you can cash no matter what - You are indeed a winner, go buy yourself that overpriced beer you deserved in the first place. :p

Statistically, betting longshots to show is the worst ROI in the game

shut it

as far as $2 show bets after the preakness...... i wouldn't bet it just to avoid the 3 mile line that you're gonna hit trying to cash the damn thing...

62 percent of the win pool is on Big Brown but only 32 perent of the place pool and 30 percent of the show pool.

Big Brown vs. The Others

Is he that good or are they that bad?

I wonder who he could have beat over the years with then turn of foot.
