Adriano

Any news on if this horse is pointing for the derby??? Barier Reef is out but dont tell me Adriano is out of it too.

hockey2315 04-10-2008 07:31 PM

No word yet. He looks like a trap to me, though. If he does decide to go and you do bet him, make sure you get a good look at him on the track before taking the plunge. He's a total spaz.

the_fat_man 04-10-2008 07:34 PM

That would suck if Adriano is out as well CAUSE

he's the DREAMIEST

and I've been saving my marble money to bet on him.

If he doesn't run maybe he can spend a few days with Curlin and his pony. Yeah

hi_im_god 04-10-2008 07:34 PM

i think he's pointed to the lexington.

i wouldn't worry about his derby plans until after next saturday.

declansharbor 04-10-2008 07:36 PM

I thought I read that his connections were opting not to run. I could be mistaken, as with this crop, I haven't caught the 'derby fever' yet.

eajinabi 04-10-2008 08:21 PM

in the kentucky derby website. The top 20 derby contenders are listed and Adriano is not one of them. He looks to be a huge horse with a long stride. Pedigree on Top and bottom says route, route and I dont see why not there not sending him.

hockey2315 04-10-2008 08:37 PM

Have you looked at his PPs?

I think he's a really nice horse, infact I liked him since he debuted at Saratoga last summer. Unfortunately for him, I think he's a very good turf horse, that is good on poly and just average on dirt. Probably The Secretariat Stks or Virginia Derby down the line will be his targets. The good thing is there are some good purses down the line for a horse of this quality if spotted correctly. But there are very few cures for Derby fever! So I wouldn't be surprised if he lines up at CD in May.

Maybe because he hates dirt?

Lane's End winner Adriano, prepping for a start in the April 19 Lexington Stakes, may go in the Kentucky Derby instead. "We wouldn't run him in both races," Motion said. "I'd say at this point we're leaning a little bit more toward the Derby than the Lexington" (Thoroughbred Times). In Adriano's only dirt start, the Fountain of Youth, the colt finished ninth, although whether that was because of the surface or because he became unsettled in the paddock is uncertain. Motion said he would send Adriano to Churchill this week to work over the track.

I don't know man - one roughly run race from the 12 hole going two-turns at GP isn't enough for me to say he hates dirt.

Maybe he does - but he got his one chance in an impossible situation. It's not like he has Big Brown's speed (or overall ability) - and if you're not tactically gifted that's not the place to be.

And on top of all that, Motion says the colt is more nervous than a single girl at the Bates Motel. He's worried about a meltdown under the noise and hubbub...

Sounds like a challenge for Motion, the Kentucky Derby brings out more pycho racefans then any other race we know in America. He's going to melt under the pomp and circumstance. Well you only get one chance to win it, can't really blame an owner for wanting to give it a shot.

I don't know, a good comparison would be a horse like Barbaro who to then was more known as a turf horse. In the Florida Derby, he had the 10 post was bumped at the break and still won. I think you would just want to see a little more from Adriano in the FOY.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-11-2008 08:42 AM

Barbaro and Adriano is a horrible comparison.

Barbaro had more early speed - and was a much better horse. He won the Fountain of Youth by holding off future claimer Great Point.

CSC 04-11-2008 09:01 AM

Obcourse I'm not saying Adriano is Barbaro, and I do agree to a point that one race to come to a conclusion on a horse may be premature. I was just making the point good horses overcome bad posts and surfaces. I just didn't see enough from Adriano to come to the conclusion that an excuse can be made for him either way.

Love for this horse to go, just lets me toss another :)

I knew going into that race that it would set up a future bet with him on dirt in the future. Just not sure if it is going to be in the KY derby.

The Bid 04-11-2008 09:14 AM

May surprise some people

eajinabi 04-11-2008 02:23 PM

he looks like Point Given with his big size. As far as as being Point Given, he has yet to prove it but to me very capable if his Lanes End win is any indication of his ability
