Tampa Bay Derby

Does anyone plan on attending the Tampa Bay Derby this Saturday?

3kings 03-10-2008 07:12 PM

I'm considering it.... Will be in Venice from 3/14-3/24. Would like to meet up with the Tampa group for a day at the track. Would Derby day be best or is there another day everyone will be there?

Tom

I'll be there on TB Derby day and probably one or two more days in March.
Not sure who else is attending during that time.

Apparently very few horses will be attending as only two are slated to face War Pass as of now.

That's ok, War Pass will run a huge Beyer and Andy will continue to compare him to Seattle Slew.:D

Seattle Slew didn't run huge numbers as a 3YO.

Seattle Slew, the legend, was not as such until after the TC... There have been plenty of hyped fast 2 and 3 year olds that were to be the next SLEW..Unforunately since any such potentially great 3 year rarely runs at four it's kind of unlikely any colt will ever be given the chance to be the next Slew WPass included.. Remember in this business your paid not to play ball.

At least he's not comparing him to Silence Suzuka.

After running 0.69 seconds faster than Halo Hollie last out, who can blame them for ducking the champ?

Cannon Shell 03-10-2008 08:50 PM

I will be there

Cool with me. The more he keeps racking up huge figures against nobody, the more money there'll him in Louisville.

I'm sure you'll clean up on the Derby. Make sure to bring a big duffel bag for all the cash you'll be carrying out.

His figure last out wasn't huge...

And in his other wins - he obviously was beating someone ('sup Pyro)

I'm going to be skeptical of War Pass' Derby chances until I see him let another horse take the lead, with him switching off and relaxing nicely from a stalking position and powering home late.

A horse as accomplished as War Pass will not get an unpressured early lead in a race like the Derby....unless he goes with the Silence Suzuka approach of trying to sprint for an entire 10 furlongs.

War Pass is impressive - I don't see anyone catcing him. If they turn Churchill Downs into a conveyor belt (ala War Emblem) forget about it. I have to wonder why they aren't going to the Florida Derby

is the timing of the race all that matters. Street Sense setting a trend?

War Emblem's win was more a product of easy pace scenario than track bias.
