Lane's End: Pletcher Nominates 24

http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=43782

Slant or not, this is a joke. 1 out of every 6 1/2 horses nominated for the race is a Pletcher. How many will run? How many does he have?

What might be even more absurd is the total number of horses nominated for the race. Look at some of them>>>

BTW, here are some PP's on the cheap.

Street Sense was nominated to the Super Derby Prelude last year, a $100k race the week before the Travers.

Nominations mean fooey now-a-days.

I got 3 horses into the 20 pages of noms and got stuck at Matz's Anewday - a mdn beaten a combined 23 lengths in 2 starts with 420.00 in career earnings ...Sure a G2 is the next logical step

They should charge a huge nomination fee that is fully rebated when they step in the gate, or refunded if they don't get in... this just creates a lot of bs and work for no reason...

Not to be contrary, but I don't understand this.

Work for whom? The racetrack is more than properly compensated and what does it matter who is nominated? Am I missing something?

I agree. It's not like we start handicapping the Lanes End before they draw entries the week of the race. Who cares if there's 250 horses nominated?
I assume this is similar to nominating to the Fla. Derby. If you nominate for the big race, you're automatically nominated for the preps leading up to it at Turfway (like the Batagglia this weekend).

It seems exceedingly ignorant to go through an entirely useless process when the only qualification is that the entrants be 3yo. It's not like nomination fees rebated to entrants is a foreign concept. Maybe we wouldn't bitch so much when these graded races fill with pathetic horses if the owners/trainers had to ante up before-hand. I don't see any positive reason for open nominations.
