I think if you use the "Dale Baird" line of thinking, then you can definitely say he's the greatest.

That's often overlooked. In today's era, being hard on guys is looked at as a bad thing. All of the athletes want to be coddled. Knight doesn't do that. He not only prepared his players to play ball but teaches them how to be men too. Almost to a man, you hear great things about Knight from his former players. One thing that I've never heard questioned is his passion for the game and his players. His personality and temper and judgement come into question all of the time but never his dedication to his teams. The players that Knight gets these days are guys that know what comes with the territory when they sign up to attend Texas Tech. The parents that stand behind their kids' decisions know also. These are guys that are looking for that disciple and they get it from Knight. I don't know any facts but I know that Knight's graduation record has always been pretty high among his division one counterparts and especially so in comparison to those of other "major" programs. I know that if I had a son, I would have no problem sending him to Knight. None.

was Knight one of the original 12 disciples or is he the unspoken 13th one we never read about in the Bible?:D

Forgive me. I went to bible study last night and it must have still been in my mind. Yes, even scum like me can attend bible study.

roy williams was on the radio last week. williams and knight have gotten to be friends. williams says the only person that has taught him more about basketball is dean smith. williams couldn't say enough good about knight.

i'd have no problem send a kid to play for knight. he'd get his degree and be taught about life.

He's another in the long line of "do as I say not as I do" kind of guys!!! My guess is what is televised is only the bad side of Knight. In the end I think he has done a lot of good things as well. He actually enjoys it however. His "game face" imitations during one of his legendary press conferences was priceless!!

i don't get the difference between him and a prima donna actress.

both are hugely talanted. but either could be replaced with someone nearly as talanted minus the personality disorder.

isn't it a given that a good coach inspires their players?

it's telling that his defender's feel it neccesary to cite the player's who found him inspiring. I would assume all coach's at the college level have that.

if inspiration is fear, then he's the best at it.
knights teams usually, hustle, play good defense, run good motion offense and make few mistakes. they are in proper postions on the floor and aware of game situations. thats all good coaching.
i admit i don't like knights act but respect his results and his teams. personally, i'm a dean smith fan and the carolina chain of coaches.

i don't have facts that support this. but what i think is that for every player he inspires to maximize their talant there is another he has ruined.

he's a great coach. and for some players he's exactly what they need.

but he comes with serious baggage. i don't think that's true for dean smith. and many other's.

i read the only player that dean smith ever advised to leave school early was rasheed wallace, because he wanted him OUT of the program. apparently CDS couldn't through to him. i don't think knight really dealt with kids like wallace.

It is very hard to replace him but he is a prima donna.
Basketball is a creative sport. I think it is an immense
amount of fun. His basic theme of ball and player movement
is not new, its just that he teaches it better. Some games
his teams are so perfectly spaced while moving off the ball
screening, its really fun too watch. The players SHOULD
love this kind of game. But he makes it pure drugery.
He teaches many kids to despise a beautiful game.

He personally is a wreck imo. He is a tragic Greek character.
Maybe he wants to be. Just hate seeing so much talent
wasted. He no longer gets any top players. Who would
want to put up with his crap day after day, lessons in life
kids stuff. I guess the wayward who need a sense of
direction and need to be derided daily to learn.

I would not send a kid of mine close to the man.
