Taking a different approach for a change . . .

Race 13: $33 tri 1/3,5,7/3,5,7 = $198
Enjoy the Day!!!

And going with National Treasure to win. Baffert would not be bringing him all the way to the east coast if he disn't think he was primed and ready to throw in a big race, IMHO

Key word being "primed.":D Hard to rule Baffert out even if he is running his 2nd and 3rd stringers, we have all learned the hard way. On paper, it looks like Mage might get a much slower pace, but everyone said that about the Derby too. Guess it all depends how patient those little men that ride want to be. Maybe they'll be more reasonable since the field is so small and little chance of being caught behind a wall of horses.

It's odd. A lot of our players like National Treasure. Nobody likes Mage.

The current odds for the Preakness appear to be way out of kilter, although this is only the early betting. The odds on Chase the Chaos simply should not be in the single digits - same goes for Coffeewithchris, who might be a pace factor but I don't see as still being around when the real running starts.

As for liking NT, pace does make the race a lot of the time, and Johnny V already showed us in the Sir Barton that he knows how to "walk the dog".

In Reality.......I had a Derby Future Wager on National Teasure....he was denied points early and missed the San Felipe....50-1....came back in the new Preak Future and bet the ALL OTHERS as he was in it....13-1...

And he did walk the dog named National Treasure and won.

That dog was not exactly a greyhound, but he got the job done. Looked like for a moment there that the Chad/Irad combo was going to spoil the party, but seems like if you give a Baffert trained horse the lead, they rarely give it up.

I watched a bit more telecast yesterday than usual. Randy Moss was advocating for more time between the Triple Crown races. He said it should be the first Saturday in May and then same in June and July and there probably wouldn't be a small field like we saw yesterday. Probably right about that, but can't see it changing anytime soon.

The folks that say that track maintenance people make tracks speed up on big days seem to be supported by the results yesterday. I think there were at least 3 track records set.

I was talking with my grandson yesterday and he seems to be getting interested in racing. I told him he should join our group, but doubt if he will. In college at the University of Arkansas. His mother probably wouldn't appreciate my siren's song just yet.

Take him to the track and see if he gets the bug.

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN 100% AGAINST 2 WEEKS TO PREAKNESS

HAVE ALWAYS PROPSED THAT IDEA OF 4 WEEKS BETWEEN

UNFORTUNATELY TRADITION WILL PREVENT COMMON SENSE :(

HOW MANY HORSES MUST DIE TO CAUSE A CHANGE 😿

There are a number of cogent arguments that have been made about extending the time between triple crown races. I think that we could have a healthy discussion of the benefits versus the adherence to tradition.

However, I have to take issue with your claim that horses are dying because of the two week interval. Nothing can support the claim of your last sentence. Havinameltdown's breakdown was tragic, but that was not part of the triple crown competition.

He goes and to the casino too. Just turned 21 and has already been to Vegas. I think I was 40+ before my first trip to Vegas. Kids nowadays are world travelers. He's already been to Europe. His brother goes on fishing trips to Canada and his sister goes on ski trips to Utah every winter. It's a far cry from my childhood growing up in podunk Arkansas.

I took him and his brother to Oaklawn once. They were ready to go by the 3rd race, but I think that he is a lot more mature now and claims he want to know about horse racing. I will try to impart what I know which should take all of 30 minutes.

"Cogent" . . . I love that word but rarely if ever use it. :tro: Thus the divergence between an Attorney and nd Architect.

JolyB 05-21-2023 05:32 PM

Sorry Don. I apparently swallowed a dictionary as an infant and random words have been coming out at unpredictable moments ever since.:o

RUFFIAN 05-21-2023 05:34 PM

Cogent is a term that describes something that is convincing, compelling and appeals to reason12.

It is often used to refer to an argument in a court
that is forceful and to the point1.

Just curious Joly. Something makes me think you might be a Jeopardy fan. If you are you might be enjoying the Jeopardy Masters shows that have been on lately. The contestants seem to have an encylopedic knowledge of just about everything and before I can even think about the answer they have already given it. I get a few questions right, but not many and I have managed a couple of times to get the final Jeopardy question right about some pretty obscure things, but most of the time I don't have a clue. I don't know how people manage to soak up such knowledge. I'm thinking they must have either had one heck of a great education or they sit around reading books on trivia.

JolyB 05-22-2023 06:09 AM

Cal, both my wife and I are Jeopardy fans and have been for many years. We have been watching the current Masters series and have been impressed with the breadth of knowledge of the group of 6 players and the speed with which they can come up with the answers.

There are certain topics in which I feel able to keep up with their pace - U.S. and World history, poetry and literature and geography. However, when the topic turns to pop culture as it seems to for at least one category per game, we both just sit their blankly.

I don't know how a person could prepare for such a competition. There are so many potential topics to master. Perhaps your thought on trivia books might be useful, since many times what is required is broad rather than deep knowledge.

Yes, you are right. The breadth of their knowledge is amazing and the speed with which they can come up with the answers. My old age addled brain needs more than a nano second to reply. Maybe that is why I have been able to come up with a few of the Final Jeopardy questions. With those you get a bit more time because of the commercial break. I too am pretty limited on pop culture. Often watch with my son. He is much more aware of that sort of thing being 30 years younger.

I'd be all over a Jepoardy Contest if the topics were, 50's TV, American Bandstand, Bugs Bunny, The Beatles, The Twilight Zone and BC Comics. :D

Know what you mean. I'd probably do better with stuff from the past than more recent things. TV programs come and go now without me watching a single episode. I used to watch programs like Coach, All in the Family, Cheers and others. I think when reality TV started that was pretty much the end of TV watching for me other than news. Some of reality TV was good like shows that were about how things are done, but I had to pass on the gossipy ones mostly about verbal combat between housewives. Best thing I've watched lately is Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. Sorry to see those end. Just saw the end of Better Call Saul a few nights ago.
