The Marvin looks like a very good race that should be a great betting race.

Bigsmc 07-19-2011 01:40 PM

Interesting field for the James Marvin.

Ramon riding a firster for Peter Pugh.....

ateamstupid 07-19-2011 01:43 PM

That might be the best field ever assembled for $75,000.

Indian Charlie 07-19-2011 01:47 PM

In the fifth race is a 2yo 550k Smart Strike filly debuting for Ass. She's out of MMSC.

Without looking @ PP's, 7 of 11 can win this. Very tough $75K stake. :zz:

Wow, I had not noticed that.

That seems like a bad fit.

maybe Ass is just getting a tune up in for later. He usually doesn't have JL ride unless nobody else is available.

Not necessarily, he rode him a lot more at CD. He's also the regular rider of Dominus.

2010/2011 35 .20 $1.25

Kasept 07-19-2011 02:34 PM

At a glance, 104 horses (plus 13 AE's or MTO's), 84 trainers and 25 jockeys represented on the card..

I didn't think he used him that much. Thanks for the info and stats.

Dahoss 07-19-2011 03:56 PM

Looks like a fantastic day of racing. Can hardly wait to get home and print the PP's.

ateamstupid 07-19-2011 03:59 PM

Metivier's got a good shot to take the opener for the second consecutive year.

Same. Can't wait.

declansharbor 07-19-2011 04:33 PM

I'm surprised tht Linda Rice has only one horse entered on opening day. (Not counting the main-track only in the finale) Is this somehing she normally does just after Belmont ends? Just seems odd for someone who's last two Toga meets were as prominent as they were.

I'm most likely making something out of nothing.

It's one day, there are no turf sprints carded, and her one horse (Babai Baby) has a big chance. Linda will be fine.

Whats really amazing is if they double the purse and made it a grade 3 they would get 6 of them.

You have a job - and you print the PP"s from your home?

Doesn't every place of business have a computer and a copier?

I thought the only valid reason to ever seek employment was so you could save on printing costs until they fire you for doing nothing else relating to your job.

Give the connections time - they could still make it a scratch-fest.

I wonder how Carl Doran felt when he saw the overnights. "Got this nice horse, just cleared his 3rd level allowance, probably a decent spot to try a stakes at Saratoga, should be competitive"

...and he'll be 100-1.

It's worth watching the sale workout on that horse. You had to figure with the purchase price that it'd be pretty good.

I was splitting hairs...you said "ever." The superlative struck me.

For a NY bred with a rather underwhelming pedigree (unless you're a fan of Kaffiend) it was a pretty solid workout under minimal to no urging.

King Glorious 07-19-2011 11:15 PM

Has there been a grade one better than the Marvin this year?

Coach Pants 07-19-2011 11:29 PM

Guesstimate on Here Comes Ben odds?

Anything above 8-1 and I'm in.

I think he'll be closer to 9-2 or 5-1, given his SAR form and bounceback last race. I've always liked him.

hockey2315 07-20-2011 12:31 AM

I was a fan of Here Comes Ben last year, but I'm still not sure he's the same horse now. . . The pace he was on last time was glacial.

Flashy Lassie, winner of the Grade 3 Debutante at Churchill Downs in June, will scratch out of Friday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga, trainer Garry Simms said Wednesday morning.

Have to wait for the boss to go to lunch first.
