Demi O'Byrne was on ATR today to remember Sadler's Wells, and gave every indication that Master of Hounds is Derby-bound.

Derby Kitten is ahead of Sway Away and you bet your ass he'll be in the gate if he can get in.

Very True my bad I keep forgetting Ramsey owns him and we all know Ken Ramsey has 1 goal and that is to run the Derby,no matter if he has a horse or a mule.

Mersad Metanovic, racing manager and bloodstock partner with Jeff Bonde, has posted on Facebook that Calvin Borel has agreed to ride Twice The Appeal in the Derby. Funny how this got started after Borel rode for Bonde on Saturday in the Lexington.

From 50-1 ML to maybe 25-1 or 30-1 post....as a guess.

LARHAGE 04-27-2011 02:56 PM

I have to think Twice The Appeal is a better prospect than Watch Me Go, this year who knows, all you really need is 4 legs and a tail.

He is named Derby Kitten after all.

From the TDN:

Calvin Borel, who has ridden three of the last four GI Kentucky Derby winners, will pilot Edward Brown Jr. and Victor Flores’ GIII Sunland Derby winner Twice the Appeal (Successful Appeal) in the May 7 Classic. “I called [Borel’s agent Jerry Hissam Tuesday] and asked if they would take our horse into consideration,” trainer Jeff Bonde’s racing and bloodstock manager Mersad Metanovic explained. “My owners wanted an experienced rider and Calvin was the best available who already had a lot of success in the Derby. He called us back [Wednesday] to tell us Calvin would take the mount.” Metanovic continued, “We didn’t necessarily want to make the change because we felt a sense of loyalty [to previous rider Christian Santiago Reyes], but we thought this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we want to seize it now and not have any excuses later.” Borel, a first-time finalist for induction into the Hall of Fame this year, won the 2007 Derby with Street Sense (Street Cry {Ire}), the 2009 Derby with Mine that Bird (Birdstone) and last year’s “Run for the Roses” with Super Saver (Maria’s Mon). “I think Borel fits this horse perfectly,” Metanovic said. “We’re really excited.”

Will now be Twice the Underlay.

LOL

PatCummings 04-27-2011 06:28 PM

Maybe an underlay in the win odds, but the value will still be there in the less-amateur-playing exotic pools. Take out this horse's non-dirt races, and you don't find a ton of improving 3YOs in this race, he might be one of them.

I tend to agree though I don't know distance wise unless he got a lot of stamina from his mom.

He's a half to multiple route winner Board Elligible, who ran 2nd in the Ladies Handicap when it was 10 furlongs. His dam is a full to a route winner on grass and a half to another multiple route winner on both turf and dirt.

He's a vastly different son of Successful Appeal than a horse like JP's Gusto.

No question.

I agree.
If there is a blistering pace, he probably has a legitimate chance to pass tiring horses (particularly with this jock) and get a share.
But I don't think this year's Derby is likely to produce the :45 opening half mile that he'd probably need to be a real contender. With Calvin up and coming off a 9f win, I think you can almost guarantee that the horse will be horribly overplayed.

Gomez 'formally' named to ride Master of Hounds..

tjfla 04-29-2011 12:18 PM

If Anthony's Cross gets in Bejarano gets the mount

Seems logical. He was really good at Churchill before he moved out west a few years back.
