Soldat not happy.

To Honor and Serve helped as well.

Not really.

Stay Thirsty perhaps slightly.

Got off the phone w/ John Fort a little while ago. He said that there was a chance that Flashpoint could win the Florida Derby and not go to Kentucky. I think it'd be extremely hard to make that decision, but I would applaud it if for nothing else it's refreshing realisticness. He thinks he could get an advantageous pace scenario at GP because everyone might be afraid to run with him, but doesn't think the same could ever happen in the KY Derby.

Next time ask him if Mythical Power will be defending his title in the Texas Mile.

I'll believe it when I see it. The idea that if he wins he won't run in the Derby is suspect at best. Derby fever is a real thing.

Preakness instead?????????

The Indomitable DrugS 03-31-2011 11:12 AM

Forget about afraid - they aren't fast enough to run with Flashpoint early on.

Unless he's overly rated - or the track is very speed biased - whoever is within two or three lengths of Flashpoint early isn't going to have anything left in the stretch for Dialed In.

I'm not sure about that as I'm not positive he can rate.

Depending on how the blinkers effect him. He rated nicely in the Gotham, but the blinkers might make him more aggressive.

He's been training to take dirt in the face and McLaughlin seems to feel that the horse can rate very well.........

My comment was less about his ability to rate than the idea that he would get a softer pace.

And here I was, thinking we would be getting 7/2 on Dialed In.. Not a good betting race for the vertical players imo

Kasept 03-31-2011 03:12 PM

FL Derby day card PP's are up..

lemoncrush 03-31-2011 03:20 PM

Flashpoint will have to gun it from the 8 path (not that he wouldn't anyway, but is post will make him work harder.

Soldat gets the rail...again.

Hopefully the presence of Flashpoint will help this not be another merry go round for the horses drawing inside going 1-1/8 at GP

VOL JACK 03-31-2011 05:50 PM

How about that field for the Sir Shackelton for 67k?

Talk about Value...the racing office got plenty there.

Dahoss 03-31-2011 07:19 PM

Fantastic card. The maiden races are deep, allowance races came up strong and the stakes (for the most part) are interesting betting races.

The last race could be a grade 2 stake at most tracks. Mystic deserves a long look in there IMO.

Fulla Sheets 03-31-2011 09:55 PM

Goldikova's half brother, Ocean Seven, is in the 7th race. 1st start in North America with Pletcher.

letswastemoney 03-31-2011 10:03 PM

Does anyone think Flashpoint can win if they leave him alone up front?

why not? this is gulfstream park we are talking about and i can't see to honor and serve or soldat running him down early...hes going to go as far as he can.....thats the question...how far can he go?

dalakhani 04-01-2011 12:03 PM

Kent D with no mounts in any of the stakes. Is he riding somewhere else or is he that far down on the ladder now?

I think he's all or nothing. Breaking outside going 9f at GP, even with a smallish field, is never easy. He'll have to gas it a bit early, and being a sprinter thus far, might be hard to settle down and end-up toast by the 3/8's pole. Or, I'm completely wrong, and he wires the field and is a supa-star.

pucknut 04-02-2011 05:45 PM

flash in the pan is not the factor
sizzles then fizzles
to honor and serve gets my vote

nomad 04-02-2011 11:40 PM

Box 1-4-7

King Glorious 04-03-2011 01:22 AM

I like Flashpoint to take them a long way and ensure that Soldat or To Honor and Serve get taken out of their game. They will be forced to run faster early than they want to and have nothing left when the real running starts. Stay Thirsty will take over in the lane and hold off Dialed In to win with Flashpoint holding for third.

hoovesupsideyourhead 04-03-2011 01:29 PM

fla derby

how long will flashpoint stick around

If he was coming out of the 2 hole instead of the 8, I'd give him a shot to win, bur it's just too much to do with that track configuration at gp

Coach Pants 04-03-2011 04:36 PM

Terrible Florida Derby. If scumbag on the outside doesn't steal the race then To Honor and Hardly Race should win it.

It's just a s.hit race of epic proportions. These horses suck.

AeWingnut 04-03-2011 04:45 PM

The consensus is that To Honor and Serve isn't going to get the distance

and Dialed in is just a closing sprinter

and Shackleford is a little warm

Travis Stone 04-03-2011 04:53 PM

Dialed In is okay going forward, but at this point, it's Uncle Mo's Derby to lose.

Coach Pants 04-03-2011 04:55 PM

This is what happens when you let white collar criminals, mentally insane billionaire track owners, and fuzzy math snake oil salesmen take over.

It's not going to get better.

randallscott35 04-03-2011 04:56 PM

I am betting the Ill Derby winner.

No doubt. Despite that, a nice race by Dialed In to get up and a terrific effort by Shackleford.

Betsy 04-03-2011 04:56 PM

That was an awful race - Shackleford? Only Dialed In did any running; THAS never looked like he was getting past the winner and everyone else was basically a non-factor..
