3/19 (OP): Rebel S. (G2), Azeri (G3)

Upcoming Rebel Stakes looks like it will feature a full field highlighted by the likes of The Factor, Sway Away and Archarcharch. The Factor's first encounter with two turns will determine whether the colt stays on the Derby trail...looks like a very interesting race!

After what I saw last weekend The Factor is now my #1 Derby horse. He should have no problem beating this group

Or he can run out of gas like Runflatout that everyone was so in love with last week.

I could be wrong but I don't think it's going to be as easy as you might think. I think Sway Away should like the extra distance. He could give The Factor some trouble in this one.

You do realize that the horse is not by Giant's Causeway.

As will Elite Alex

The Indomitable DrugS 03-15-2011 04:09 PM

Elite Alex has to shine in this spot or else you can forget about him.

I like that he won a 5f debut race like a horse who isn't a slowpoke - and Borel has basically tried to manipulate his running style. Now he needs the Graded Earnings.

I agree.. It is make or break time here...I think he has a good shot.

Dahoss 03-15-2011 04:50 PM

Fantastic field if they all run. I think Caleb's Posse deserves a long look after what happened to him at the top of the stretch last time.

By Afleet Alex out of a Seattle Slew mare, yeah, he better like the distance.

Baffert should put the horse in a bulletproof vest based on RHT's proclamation.

That being said, are there any good Giant Causeway's running?

Is this a serious question? Best sire in the history of sires.

VOL JACK 03-15-2011 09:22 PM

Ohhh really?
I must be forgetting about all of his champions and classic winners.

Name his top 5 current runners, since you are President of his fan club.

You never cease to amaze me.

You realize he is joking, right?

dylbert 03-16-2011 12:51 AM

Should I stay or should I go?

Yes, this is very intriguing field. Still trying to convince myself to drive 5-1/2 hours Saturday and see this one live. Oaklawn already announced that infield will open this week. Enjoyed a couple of Arkansas Derby days there in 1970s as college kid.

I will wait for draw... then decide?

Kasept 03-16-2011 12:59 PM

Latest anticipated Rebel Field:

Aracharcharch
Alternation
Bluegrass Jam
Caleb's Posse
Dreaminofthewin
Elite Alex
Glint
J P's Gusto
JW Blue
Picko's Pride
Sway Away
The Factor

Still possible::

Smoke It Right
Prime Cut
Saratoga Red
Nehro

tjfla 03-16-2011 01:52 PM

With the Rebel having 100 horses running in it,I wonder if any trainer will call an audible and send the horse to the LA Derby instead

200 for 2nd is better than 30 for 3rd:D

The majority of the field is based at Oaklawn, so I doubt too many people will want to ship down to New Orleans instead. But it is surprising how deep this field is compared to the recent 3-year old preps in New York and Florida.

Alan07 03-16-2011 03:09 PM

The draw for Saturday's $300,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park is set for Thursday, and a full field was solidifying, thanks in large part by the arrival of two challengers from California.

A plane carrying The Factor and Sway Away, was due to arrive at Hot Springs Municipal Airport by late afternoon. Their presence ensures at least 13 horses will be in action in the major stepping-stone to the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) slated for April 16.

A rundown of the expected field (as of Wed. morning) can be viewed at the link below.

It will be straight to the outhouse shortly after "And they're off in the Rebel stakes" . There will be several "ah's" and a few "ers". Maybe a miss called horse or two. "JP's Gusto strikes the front, er no make that Calebs Posse". Just remember to follow the saddle cloths.

pucknut 03-16-2011 08:21 PM

martin rations the speed and the factoid proves he's not a one turn wonder
rebel yell in march is not woodford reservein may but its a great appetizer

I believe the saddle cloths will be the same color.

Have to chuckle at the validity of these comments. There was a day back at Ak-Sar-Ben when Terry was pretty fun AND accurate to listen to. Nowadays it is just a bit sad at times how he can butcher a race. It's scary to think how messed up the Ark Derby might be.

Terry Wallace's favorite horse to call: Whoooooooooooo Doctor Whooooooooooooo
(one of the best Nebraska breds ever)

I still like ArchArchArch as longshot chance and with pp1 winning @ 20% clip over 1 mile races, a few $$ won't hurt. ;).

DaTruth 03-17-2011 05:35 PM

Elite Alex may run in the Louisiana Derby instead.
