WISE CHOICE

The Indomitable DrugS 03-15-2010 05:15 PM

No ... he wasn't even trained by Gary Sciacca either.

RockHardTen1985 03-15-2010 05:17 PM

Cigar ran a 121 Beyer in victory that day .. the only time in his career he ever broke into the 120's.

Silver Goblin was hung up 4 wide on the first turn and gave a good account of himself in defeat.

Cigar, Concern, Urgent Request, Best Pal. Amazing what a Grade I field used to look like.

It was a race or 2 after The Donn where Holy Bull got hurt....that was the big story, not Cigar's 6 length win.

Final six starts under trainer Randy Bradshaw for this future champ...

blackthroatedwind 03-15-2010 05:31 PM

Orientate?

The Indomitable DrugS 03-15-2010 05:32 PM

Nope.

blackthroatedwind 03-15-2010 05:33 PM

I figured Wayne trained him the whole time but he came to mind.

asudevil 03-15-2010 05:36 PM

Petionville?

Yeah - he had some ugly lines in a few races.

Though he had wins in the Indiana Derby and Sir Beaufort mixed in.

I recognized the Kentucky Derby running line and the Kings Bishop where Forestry beat him.

What are the two other G2's listed, Indiana Derby and Pegasus?

He never ran in the King's Bishop ... the 2nd place in the Grade 1 was to the Indomitable Theatrical gelding Run Man Run in the Malibu.

Was Run Man Run the only Theatrical to ever win a Grade 1 sprint?

blackthroatedwind 03-15-2010 05:54 PM

Run Man Run...." trained " by the immortal Tony Margotta.

Actually, he had a pretty good, but reasonably unknown, actual trainer.

You are right. Just found the video- it was Five Star Day the year later (1999) who battled Forestry with almost that exact running line.

First five times that this horse ran on the dirt with blinkers ... name him ...

Actually.

The truth was about Artax, that idiot incompetent buffoon jackass Bradshaw ran Artax against Indian Charlie and Real Quiet while anemic. When he finally figured out he couldn't get his horse to perform at a top level while anemic, he finally laid him up.

Single worst training job by probably the worst big name trainer I can ever remember.

Artax was a beast.

Correct.

His first dirt race wearing blinkers he upset Street Cry at 65/1 odds

I thought I might be able to slip that one past you guys because of the running line where EA blows a 5 length lead.

That was the Excelsior, he uncharacteristically bolted to the lead and got beat by some bomb.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-15-2010 06:21 PM

In just ten weeks he went from maiden to Wood Memorial winner ... didn't run again after the Wood for two years.

Name him ...

It was the mid-90's but the name of the horse escapes me.

blackthroatedwind 03-15-2010 06:24 PM

He was off a layoff that day and probably fresh.
