Interesting breeding on Prince Rooney. Anyone here seen him run?

DaTruth 01-18-2010 01:29 PM

I like Wow Wow Wow in here, especially if he goes off near his ML. He looked set to run a big race at the top of the stretch in that FG allowance, but all the ground loss he experienced caught up to him at the end. He drew the 12 post for this, but hopefully Court can work out a good trip and minimize the ground loss.

hoovesupsideyourhead 01-18-2010 01:37 PM

i like crider olando mo up

DaTruth 01-18-2010 04:42 PM

House horse takes it.

Dryfly was life and death to get the mile - Pleasant Storm finished nicely

hockey2315 01-18-2010 05:14 PM

I think Pleasant Storm has a nice future. . . He's probably my derby sleeper at this point.

That doesn't mean much to me. . . it's not like Pleasant Tap hasn't produced some nice horses and he stands in KY anyways. Dam's side is nothing special production-wise, but I've been impressed with his turn of foot and think the pedigree suggests even more ground.

Well perhaps IF he is sold to Jackson/Gann/etc. Without being disrespectful to Petalino, The Triple Crown trail seems a bit amibitious.. Besides he could make 400k with the horse running 83 BSF in easy spots.

Coach Pants 01-18-2010 06:33 PM

I like him too.

How about Brazil?

SilverRP 01-18-2010 08:49 PM

I've followed Pleasant Storm here at Remington. Played him when he romped first time out, then in the 2 year old stakes. I remember seeing him in the paddock for the first time and thinking damn, he looks like a beast. He's defiantly been on my radar, and will continue to be after this fine effort.

Derby horse? probably not.......but then again, it's only January.

In the specific case of the Derby... Southern Hemisphere is a problem. Running a 2.5 year old against the best 3yo's of the generation would be very tough to win.

Sorry to leave you hanging. I was just teasing Freddy, who apparently is suffering from a severe case of xenophobia tonight (see his work in the Einstein thread for further details).

LOL. Gotcha...

I hope you caught Pants' poker reference in there, by the way

I have a feeling if Dryfly continues on in this manner, Lynn Whiting is going to become the "feel good" humble old school trainer in all the Derby human interest stories a la Hal Wiggins and the goon that trains General Quarters.

That said, he's quitely done well with many 3yos over the years that came from humble origins (ie Lil E. Tee, Phantom On Tour, At The Threshold, Big Pistol).

I always cry after those heart warming features.. Especially when they show the trainer so emotional about there horsey.

True ... but at least three of those horses started off with promising races for other trainers.

Not sure about Big Pistol.

Didn't he buy Dryfly privately, too?

hockey2315 01-20-2010 03:09 PM

91 Beyer for the winner.

It's made all four career starts for the same owner-trainer.

He was a 140K FT Calder 2yo RNA.

DRF says that he was privately purchased on Whiting's recommendation. Must have been before he started.
