It's way too early to do this...

... so let's do it anyway. :D

At this early point in time (since it's another sloooow Tuesday), list your top 5 Derby hopefuls.

Who wants to go first?

dagulla 02-10-2009 11:47 AM

Old fashioned
Fresian fires
Pioneer of the nile
Giant oak
The pegasus horse who ran second to fires

King Glorious 02-10-2009 11:50 AM

Stardom Bound
Vineyard Haven
Haynesfield
Friesan Fire
Can't find a fifth.

my miss storm cat 02-10-2009 11:52 AM

In no particular order (and with some amount of guilt cause I'm hoping Godolphin wins the Derby at some point, anyway...) :D

Crowded House
The Pamplemousse
Donativium
Stardom Bound
Poltergeist

dagulla 02-10-2009 11:58 AM

Imperial council
Mr fantasy

At some point, check the replay for the Racing Post Trophy (Crowded House). (Nice run in the Tatts Million too where he was 2nd to Donativium).

You tell me...

I think you missed the most important point......

......he just gave definitive proof that he can't count to five.

The fact that he's unable to shut up had already been firmly established.

Of course he can count to five, after all, he once went nine for nine at some OTB in NY.

He just gets carried away with his enthusiasm.

Does Kiaran McLaughlin have any contenders this year?

Bobby Fischer 02-10-2009 01:23 PM

I don't know yet.
Old Fashioned looks like a good shot to hit the board at this point.

No, nor me, KG...... I think she is getting too excited about this Crowded House. He'd need to be starting soon to have any chance of hitting the board.

Fountain of Youth where one contributor to this board has already pronounced he will "get drowned."

He's probably right.

Can I book your futures action? Please? Except on Friesan Fire. Stardom Bound's trainer doesn't want her to run in the SA Derby, do you think he'll want the KY Derby? Or will Dutrow have her by then?
Haynesfield's chance of getting 10f without a horse van are slim, esp. in G1 company.

everyone who likes these horses, shed a tear whilst crossing them off your list...they have zero chance now. oh, and the other two he added to his list of five...

eajinabi 02-10-2009 05:26 PM

I like any horse Kiaran Mclaughlin trains.
This guy is my favorite trainer. He is due to win a derby.

berreman150 02-10-2009 06:00 PM

I agree with this. Guys like Frankel and Pletcher and the Dubai people......they need to pay their dues first then maybe it will be their time. McLaughlin is due now.

I can count, but its hard to have only 5 at this point of year.
I know deep down inside YOU REALLY REALLY LIKE ME.

Huh? Pletcher needs to "pay his dues" but McLaughlin is due now? They've been on their own about the same time and Todd has certainly achieved more with three year olds. As for Frankel, he's been training for about 40 years, give or take and he's still got to "pay his dues" also?
Also, not sure about this year but in the long run KMclaughlin's best shot may be with a Darley horse anyhow.

This might be the most outrageous statement I've ever read on this board, any horse racing board, and the web all together.

Mclaughlin's biggest client is the dubai folk either it be shadwell, darley but he does have horses for westpoint as well. Mr. Fantasy from westpoint looks to have a shot in the derby trail and become a contender for the derby.

Matter of fact, all three of Mclaughlin's "derby" horses are undefeated.

Interesting prop... Frankel doesn't get enough 3-year-olds, McLaughlin doesn't get the better ones (Dubai) so I would say Pletcher wins it first out them, but not by a wide margin.

I have an idea for myself. Not much...

People should worship the "he is due" method.
They should perpetuate this method as a
very critical angle.

Baffert got tired of winning them so he
is giving the ones that are due a chance.
So throw out his Egyptian horse.
