NBA playoff rant:

Pick on your favorites:

1. Carmello Anthony

Not a clue. None.
K. Martin tries to set a screen
for him and he goes the other way. Martin comes halfway
across the flippn court, opens up a lane, and frkn Carmello goes
the other way into traffic and coughs up the ball.

Anthony sets a screen for AI. On the wrong side of the
defender. AI sets Anthony up for making the correct screen
by hesitating perfectly, and Carmello sets the screen
on the wrong side of the defender.

I will not even mention Defense. And Steven A. Smith,
basketball officianado, could not wait for this, the most
exciting series. God awful stuff. I hope the Lakers
continue to crush Denver for being brain dead.

IrishofNDMan 04-26-2008 06:41 PM

Lakers will crush everyone in the playoffs.

Denver looks awful against the Lakers. I really wish Stephen A would just go away. My playoff rant would be for the Pistons. Where on earth is the defense rotation--no pressure on the ball--no energy. They look like Memphis. Sheed takes ridiculous shots, Chauncet not creating, Prince playing ZERO D. The team has yet to get back on defense. No offensive movement and horrible shooting.

Two words: Flip Saunders

pgardn 04-26-2008 08:11 PM

George Karl.

But the material he has to work
with... I would not be envious of
trying to get Carmello and AI to
play some D.

The tatooed team could not possibly
be fun in any way to coach. Bunch of
pain in the neck primadonnas.

pgardn 04-26-2008 08:19 PM

Glen Davis.
The big baby.

Looks like a huge Avacado.
That solid green jersey cries
"Get in my belly", on him.

He is the massive green planet.

The hot dogs in Atlanta are
gravitationally ripped out of the hungry
children's hands and thrown into a
decaying orbit around that Green
Monster.

They would be a dynasty if the playoffs were played under Street Ball: The Mix Tape Tour rules.

It was nice to see one of the underdogs show some heart. (The Hawks)

skippy3481 04-27-2008 11:03 AM

Speaking of lack of D how about steve nash playing less then usual. The whole team lacks any defenseive concept but you cant let parker drop in 30 a game with only two shots from outside 6 feet away.

pgardn 04-27-2008 11:27 AM

Frustrated ignorance:

1. Phoenix fans

They cant figure out who to boo anymore.
Stopped booing the Spurs. Cant boo Nash.
So they just boo-hoo.

2. Denver (The Gutless bunch)

Our coach quit, the team quit, I quit. Im a competitor.

Carmello you quit and you are a competitor?
And this is your team.
I'm sure it sends a spell of calm
over any team to know Carmello Anthony
is the leader of the team.

3. Steven A. Smith:

For saying the best series in the first
round would be Denver v. LA.
For being the most out of touch basketball
analyst. Does he ever even watch if a group
of 5 actually play well together? Not what
their individual offensive stats say.

4. Detroit

Cant say this is frustrated ignorance.
Do they even care?
Totally sleep walking.

I hope the Suns set tonight.
They are scraping up points
from guys who usually choke
and that is a bit disconcerting.

What I am very happy to see if
the Spurs move on is Horry and
Barry playing. Horry is a very important
inside defender who also has mobility
and he is only 75 years old.

Barry can flat out crank 3's.
He opens the floor wide for Ginobili
or Parker; Stops the collapse on
Duncan. Critical players for later
matchups that hopefully occur.

pgardn 04-29-2008 11:44 PM

Total choke by Phoenix.

You look at the series and see 4-1.
You think it was not close. Well it was.

Goodbye Shaq.
Righto. Sit your no touch, fat as s down
for the summer.

20 million to go 9-20 from the FT line.
But he makes all the FT that really count.

alysheba4 04-30-2008 12:40 PM

what about the choke job by nash.......the biggest overrated 2 TIME m.v.p
that ever played in the n.b.a. and to think kobe has zero m.v.p awards is as larry bird said this morning a total embarrasment.

King Glorious 04-30-2008 03:26 PM

I think that people often forget what the MVP award is about. It's not necessarily for the best player in the league. If that was the case, Michael Jordan should have won it every year. But he didn't. Hell, they gave it to Barkley and Malone in years that MJ beat them in the finals. Same thing when they gave it to Robinson and Olajuwon crushed him in the playoffs. It's about more than that though. If I had a vote, I wouldn't simply vote fore who I thought was the best player. I would look to a guy that I thought had the best combination of being a great player and the most influential to his team's success. This year, Kobe was great. But I don't think he was better than he was the previous two seasons. Even this season, until they put Bynum into the starting lineup and he started flourishing, the Lakers were a .500 team. Then when Bynum went out, they struggled again until they got Gasol. So I question how much impact Kobe really had on that team. Even the past couple of years, they had a better record with Odom and no Kobe than they did with Kobe and no Odom. The argument can be made that when Nash won his first one, it should have gone to Shaq. I chose Shaq myself. Last year, I chose LeBron. But to say that it's an embarrassment that Nash won either of them is wrong. He was very much in the convo and very deserving. Where the Suns were, what he led them to, and what they are when he's not playing.....he's very much in the convo.

The reason why Kobe or KG wouldn't get it from me is because they alone didn't account for the big improvement of their respective teams. I don't think they had the same influence on their teams that Chris Paul or LeBron James did. I'm not even sure that they had a bigger influence on their teams than Tracy McGrady has on the Rockets. When you consider what the Rockets have done and where they are and then look, really look at that lineup, you really gain a lot of respect for McGrady. Everyone thought the season was lost when Yao went down but not only wasn't it lost, they stayed in contention for the top record in the conference until the final two games. All season long, my vote was for either James or Paul. At the end, I'd go with McGrady. Not as the best player but as the MVP.

.......you just explained WHY the award is flawed, its a opinion of who is the mvp to his respective team......impossible to say. what is clear, is that kobe is the best all around player in basketball......has been for 5 straight years, lebron is nipping at his heals. when they gave the awards to bark and karl over m.j. that was a laugh......

I think there should be two awards. One for player of the year and one for most valuable to his team. I don't think though that it's clear that Bryant is the best player in the game. I go with James for that honor. James is so unselfish that people forget just how dominant he can be offensively if he chose to be. If he wanted to, I have little doubt that James could be a guy that goes for over 36 and 10 boards a night. His free-throw shooting hurt him and he's not as good an outside shooter as Bryant is but his ability to get to the basket is as good as if not better than Bryant. I think his ability to finish at the basket is better. He's much better at reading a defense and making the right play in any situation than Bryant is. That play in the last game against Washington was the perfect illustration of what kind of player he is. Last year against Detroit, he had the same situation and made a pass then too and when the shot was missed, he was criticized. People said that as the superstar, he needs to be the one taking the shot and not deferring to anyone. But that's not who he is. He's going to make the right play and sometimes, that's making the pass to the wide open guy.

It's tight as vagina in a convent but I'd go with James over Bryant.

Mortimer 04-30-2008 05:16 PM

Uh...have you ever been in a convent?

He is one of the most unique guards to ever
play the game. In fairness to this guy, he has
really bad back problems. Watch him on the bench.
Nash is the major reason the Suns have been so good
in the regular season for so long. This is MVP time.

Sad truth is Nash's body is wearing down. He has never
been good on D. Now he is a glaring detriment. He played against
the wrong point guard in this series... one of the fastest best finishers
in the league. And Phoenix plays bad help D. Against LA, Phoenix has a
chance. Mavs also. I dont care what happened in the regular season.

Also Bruce Bowen is
one of the most versatile defenders ever. Nash did really
screw up in the end. He aint the first with Bruce Bowen
and help. Lebron could not even get a win with Bowen and
help. Bowen shut down Detroit in the end of the 7th game
against Chauncey Billups (they took Parker off Billups)
I give Bowen credit.
It was a very tough playoff for Nash.

It was worse for Shaq. (I make my free throws when
they count). When do Free throws not count?
He lost to his alltime enemy, Tim Duncan.

Good bye flubber lips "I wanna get my next ring before Duncan"
I predict Shaq gets trapped in the sand beachcombing
and is removed by a crane.

Sit your butt down or go practice Free Throws ya big oaf.
Disgrace to basketball. Cant shoot a flippn 15 foot shot.

Now thats a rant.

Boston/Atlanta

Hell of a game.
Some interesting things
have come to light.

pgardn 05-02-2008 10:07 PM

Pierce shows immature nature in the playoffs.
That foul and then tech. hurt his team badly. Then he
walks around brooding in front of the whole bench.

Rondo sits out most of the last 5 min of the
game and they let Cassell handle the ball.

Ray Allen chokes easy shots under the basket
trying to get fouled, misses a wide open 3 to take the lead.

The only one of the big 3 who really played well during
crunch time was Garnett.

Does not bode well for the NBA. The Celtics must make
the finals and right now they got two of their best
3 players playing like rookies in tight times. And their starting
PG sits out the last 5 min. of a close game in favor of
ancient Sam Cassell. Look very bad in close games. Its easy when
you just blow out teams. There will be more close games.

Not good.

alysheba4 05-02-2008 11:07 PM

celtics are a big embarassment so far.....

pgardn 05-04-2008 07:27 PM

Worst playoff game I have ever
seen from Duncan. EVER.

West murdered us.

But:

1. We can get under Paul's skin.
2. Bonzi Well's can implode.

All is not lost.
Except for Hornets flying thru fire.
