Big Brown

The Derby favorite shows up today with a nice work in Florida. I hate chalk more than the next guy, but this guy's speed figures tower over an average group of 3 year olds. He is the horse to beat in 3 weeks!

letswastemoney 04-12-2008 09:11 PM

i'm beginning to hate speed figures. they've turned into the bible of handicapping.

Coach Pants 04-12-2008 09:13 PM

I was wondering when a thread on Big Brown was going to show up. Thanks for making one, ass...err turf fan.

I'll take your money! :D

jcs11204 04-12-2008 09:33 PM

what kind of odds can i get that he runs in the bottom 10, rather then the top 10

turf fan 04-12-2008 10:13 PM

Even money? He will hit the board! This is one weak crop!

i dont think he hits the board i think he runs fast early and stops badly late

turf fan 04-12-2008 10:18 PM

He is just simply too fast for the rest of these.

bellamy road was a lot better then big brown

jcs11204 04-12-2008 10:23 PM

but yea, thats kinda who he reminds me of...

turf fan 04-12-2008 10:29 PM

I refused to play Bellamy Road in the Derby. There are two differnces in Big Brown and Bellamy Road. One is Bellamy Road had competition with comparable speed figures and looked as a dead bounce . The other is Big Brown has foundation figures that tower the field.

foundation figures ? i think your wrong.... i think this horse has no shot..... and another thing, realisticly your looking at 9-5 now with pyros flop today, on a horse who has raced 3 times.... the great curlin could not even do that last year

jcs11204 04-12-2008 10:32 PM

you can play him at those odds, i am thinking there is no way he is higher then 2-1, with dutrow and kent d being so confident, and a lot of it has gone public, there is no way this horse does not get pounded at the window, and i really dont think he has much of a shot.

turf fan 04-12-2008 10:35 PM

I'll guess we'll find out in 3 weeks. If not Big Brown, find me a winner.

If you meant to be sarcastic, you should indicate it somehow. A front-runner in a 10f race with several other speed-burners, who has not shown he can handle straight dirt. Right. You should get good odds, at least.

If there is a speed duel going on (which there probably will be), Big Brown will be the last one stopping out of the pace group IMO.

Colonel John.

IF he works good over the CD surface.

AeWingnut 04-13-2008 08:39 AM

as long as PG refuses to bet BB I think he has a shot at the Triple Crown

but he'd still be stopping, even if he was last-which i don't think is a given.

Good chance that he stops late enough that he still hits the board, though. This is all speculation and I'll take my chances against Big Brown, but he is definitely the cream of this 3-year old group so far. I'm with you in that I almost hope he doesn't win because I'd hate to see people taking the 'fewer preps' approach, but he's definitely a nice colt.

SOREHOOF 04-13-2008 09:57 AM

He might not stop till the winner's circle.
