CASINO DRIVE: Jazil/Rags bro targets Belmont

http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=KAH777NJJLg

Courtesy of Steve Haskin.. Japanese-based brother of Rags to Riches and Jazil by Mineshaft pointing for the Belmont Stakes in what would be his third career start. His maidenbreaker at You Tube above... (He's #8 and hard to miss..)

Three siblings in a row in the Belmont? Would be unbelievable...

slotdirt 02-26-2008 04:25 PM

Ok, will someone please tell them they're running the wrong way?

KirisClown 02-26-2008 04:26 PM

Logical move...

Japanese horses have always done well in the triple crown races...

The Bid 02-26-2008 04:26 PM

Can Haskin translate that racecall?

Thanks for the video

blackthroatedwind 02-26-2008 04:42 PM

How long was that race? Nevermind, I saw it on the graphic....1800m

blackthroatedwind 02-26-2008 04:52 PM

I heard War Pass and Pyro just defected on the news.

justindew 02-26-2008 05:26 PM

I predict that if Casino Drive wins the Belmont, any future sibs sold at auction will sell for one trillion dollars.

The Breeders Cup should sign this guy up for this years card. Can't be any worse than Trevor:D

NoLuvForPletch 02-27-2008 07:45 AM

I felt the camerawork was particularly sweet. At one point the winner was off the screen for more than a quarter of a mile while the cameraman panned the field, stopping at each pairing for a nap each time.

In regards to the race, those were maiden race going about a mile and an eighth? Can we get a Beyer figure on that race?

The Bid 02-27-2008 09:16 AM

The filly that ran second was 100-1 maybe not the deepest field

So, if she comes over for the KY Oaks you won't be taking a flyer?

The Bid 02-27-2008 09:23 AM

I may, I like the way she finished.

She certainly cant be any worse than Lemons Forever

Hey! I had Lemons Forever!

aka the filly equivalent of Giacomo

The Bid 02-27-2008 09:28 AM

You are giving her too much credit!

Poor Lemons.

Was she bred this year?

blackthroatedwind 02-27-2008 09:34 AM

Giacomo was closer to Seattle Slew than Lemons Forever was to Giacomo.

I would assume so, she went thru the ring in the KEE NOV mixed sale.

Likely true

The Bid 02-27-2008 09:43 AM

She has a half brother that can run a little bit in training with Guillot, sadly its talent will never be known either

yet another high profile syndicate that overpays for everything

The Bid 02-27-2008 10:00 AM

Is that a syndicate, whatever it is they make some very strange moves.

I think the fact that they have Eric Guilliot as their private trainer speakes volumes about their success.

The Bid 02-27-2008 10:27 AM

Or lack of. I agree.

condidering that Southern Equine now owns the mare i doubt that the offspring will ever hit the sales. All future siblings to be raced by Southern Equine and trained by Eric Guillot.

and the Sarge as their Business Manager. And not the Cubs sarge either :)

slotdirt 02-27-2008 12:35 PM

I just read that this monster was going to use the Preakness as a prep for the Belmont? Must be nice to use the second TC race as a mere "prep" for the third.

I was truly amazed that Lemons Forever didn't win a handful of G1s. With her talent, and especially the expert handling of Dallas Stewart, the sky should have been the limit.

That horse, Overbid, is by Pulpit, so perhaps it will wake up on turf. Still, it won its debut nice enough on synthetic before getting dusted by El Gato Malo in an overambitious second start. Ran last week in a first condition, but could only split the field with a mild rally after a crawling, near :50 half mile fraction, the winner (another Pulpit, On The Virg) and runner-up running 1-2 throughout the race.

Not sure what the gripe is with Guillot. Seems to be doing alright with limited, race-ready stock. We'll see in the spring/summer when a bunch of these expensive yearling purchases from last year hit the track.
