perfect just perfect |
WOW!
Beautiful win by a beautiful girl! |
Wow what a horse. Talent, class, and some serious guts (and drop dead gorgeous, just a perfect face). The thing is Curlin's got talent and class sure, and he could get the mile and a half in good order too, but she won because she was better. I love those races. Neck and neck and the best horse wins. You go Rags! And congrats to Todd and John on their first TC race!

I am hoarse - what a race, gutsy girl - get outta her way - I am elated

Told some guys on another board that all this chatter about Slew's Tizzy and Crazy Guy was hooey. Class tells at a distance of ground, and the filly, Curlin and Hard Spun were a class above the others. (IMHO, Gomez blew Hard Spun's only chance by not letting him open on the field. He had to have more than a length on the class closers at the top of the stretch to have any chance. I know, I know, Pino moves too soon, Gomez moves too late, it's always something. He's still a class horse.)

Great day for the sport in general. A day that was needed. Rags was tough as nails down the stretch, what a race! I'm not a big Pletcher fan, but his call to put this filly in the Triple Crown was a master stroke and he deserves some credit for that. |

Well now we know, this isn't a very good filly, this is a great filly! First filly to EVER win the Belmont at 12 furlongs and she beat a very very good horse. Sure the 5 pounds helped but the stumble at the start and racing wide eliminated any weight advantage imo. The extremely slow pace didn't help her either! Now you have to wonder...could she have contended for the TC? Impossible to know but she proved she's as good as any 3yo today. Congrats to Pletcher...they talked about irony, what they didn't mention (at least while I was watching) was that Pletcher's mentor, DWL ended his long winless TC streak by winning with a filly! Great day for racing! |
Good for her!! And it's nice to see Pletcher finally get a TC race.

That was one for the ages. If Hard Spun couldn't get 1 3/16 what would think that he would get 1 1/2. If Rags To Riches goes back to racing the girls what would she have to prove? It would be great to see her in the Travers. This puts Street Sense back in the race for 3 Yr Old of the Year. He would of course have to beat Curlin in the Travers.

At what point in the stretch did the gambling dollars leave your mind and the fan in you kick-in? That was awesome, what a horse race.

i was shocked. she was fresher down the stretch and she was the best horse today.
|
the roar from the crowd was amazing. I was listening from tv but the only roar i recall hearing like that (I've been to the last 10) was when smarty was opening up on the turn a few years ago (and then it went so silent i've never heard it so quiet).
what a classy lady!!!! That will quickly go into my best list of races that have occured since I started following horse racing. Awesome. |
Friggin sickening.
Now I have to listen to that retch Just In. It corroborates ....somebody up there just don't like me. |

Personally, I wanted to see that filly win because Tabor and his boys specifcally stated earlier in the week and again after the race, that one of the reasons they did it was because they felt it was something the fans wanted to see. He was right. The day need an injection of something special, as did the game in general. Alot of people have said that horse racing's fate would change if/when a horse completed and won the Triple Crown. It's just not true, because we know as soon as that horse won, he would be gone in a flash to a breeding shed. The last five weeks have been exactly what horse racing needs. An amazing basically last to first run by Street Sense and Borel to win the Derby, a neck and neck duel between Curlin and Street Sense in Baltimore, going to Curlin by a shade, in only his 5th race. Of course today, another rousing stretch duel, this time by Curlin and Rags to Riches and then having the filly be ABSOLUTLEY tough as nails, spitting in the wind and beating the boys. In the end, the Triple Crown has given the game 4 or 5 legitimate draws that people will want to see race for the rest of 2007. Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun and Rags to Riches are bonified stars in the eyes of racing's fans. For the rest of the summer they will be the center of the game in anticipation that *maybe* they all meet on the track together before they all ride off. What a day that would be. |
