Its just silly...I will be the first to say the middle class level in socal is gone...but there are still alot of big time runners at the top, this is proven year in and year out, the top races are shown to deserve to be top races from a historical perspective. Any race can have a down year or field.

so any horse that does not win when shipping means they come out of bad races....

keep betting, bet a lot. that is a very weak opinion.

And all those horses were undefeated and considered champions on Poly???

You missed my point. Spring at Last won the Donn.

Wow, 30k claimers going to Cali and taking down G1s ... and the greatest filly in the history of the world is afraid to come out. Amazing

Should be an automatic win for her...

No, it just goes to show you that poly can turn below average horses into G1 winners. Its not a surface you can crown champions on.

I agree with your point but am cognizant of the fact that last year's Travers was one of the worst ever.

The field since is a combined 11-68 with exactly three stakes wins going two turns on the dirt/synth (two of them belonging to Macho Again).

Its not the first year a socal hors has won that race, its happened a few times, thats one race as an example.

her owners live in california, the trainer is based there-i'm sure there are many who think california racing is top notch. i'm not going to argue the point. yes, a top cali horse was touted by some as being a future t.c. winner. but lots of horses get hype each spring, regardless of where they run. a poly horse might end up looking average on dirt, or he may come east and win the travers like col. john did.

my point is, zenyatta is a top notch horse and has run on more than one surface, and on more than one track, and remains perfect.
rachel has run at multiple tracks, and annihilates her competition.
why either horse has anyone knocking them i can't and i don't understand. i think this thread has gotten well beyond ridiculous.

as for 30k claimers, they don't just appear in cali and win-no doubt that has happened at some point at any racing venue.

and you don't know that for sure. hate poly all you want, but you have no way of knowing, or proving that point.

How about these horses like Big Booster, Church Service, Black Astor, and these horses that aren't much in New York, are running for tags at Belmont, and all of a sudden show up and win G2 and G3 races in California. There's another Mitchell horse that escapes my mind right now because I think he's retired who came right out there out of the claiming ranks in New York and won a graded stakes out there. I mean, the horses that Zenyatta's beating would be hard pressed to win a listed stakes at Saratoga, let alone a G3 or G2on the East Coast. Rachel Alexandra is a special horse who might just be the best horse in training right now.
