I love this field. So much quality! I think pretty much all of the best mares in NZ are in this race. And I think about 17 of those 22 could win it!

my miss storm cat 04-05-2012 01:45 PM

Making me dizzy how many good girls are there!

How on earth can anyone make a pick?

Even my good luck to list isn't worth posting as it's half the field. :D

We do need to discuss another race as well young man!

In the Team Wealleans Hcp... good luck to my special Mr. The Hombre, to Vonusti (please win again one day), and to the beautiful Upsala who I've just accepted will not win, aka my usual suspects. :)

Who is the favorite in that one anyway?

Aren't these insane (especially Platinum Princess) or is there something I'm missing here?

_ed_ 04-05-2012 10:17 PM

No, you're right!

The explanation for Platinum Princess is that she prefers tracks that are a bit rain-affected, and it looks like being a very firm surface tomorrow. So she's at a disadvantage there.

But I can't explain the odds for the other ones at all! Floria is another one I think is crazy at 12.

my miss storm cat 04-05-2012 10:22 PM

Well I hope you hit it cause it looks like a fantastic betting race and with those nutty odds... :D :$:

_ed_ 04-06-2012 11:09 PM

Say No More wins! A great battle down the stretch with Fleur de Lune.

Xanadu third, ahead of Lady Kipling, Fazzle and Floria.

I didn't even try picking one! So many to choose from.

my miss storm cat 04-07-2012 12:56 AM

Can't wait to see the replay.

I guess my The Hombre was 2nd in his race. :)

Have not seen full results for any... hope everyone came home safe.

Good luck to Mufhasa!

_ed_ 04-09-2012 11:02 PM

Mufhasa was brave! Just couldn't quite hold on.

The weights have just been announced for Saturday's G1 Easter Handicap. Jimmy has to carry 61kg!

If he wins, I believe it'll be one of the biggest weights ever carried to victory in this 138-year-old race.

my miss storm cat 04-10-2012 03:14 PM

Whoa that's like 140 pounds.

_ed_ 04-10-2012 09:36 PM

Thoughts on Silent Acheiver and Ocean Park tonight?

my miss storm cat 04-13-2012 10:40 PM

Upsala!!!!!

_ed_ 04-14-2012 01:07 AM

Great win by Upsala! And Veyron won the Easter really nicely.

Jimmy struggled under his big weight - finished 6th or 7th.

Silent Achiever just ran the worst race of her life in the Derby. :( That was too bad to be true. I wonder what went wrong.

my miss storm cat 04-14-2012 02:32 PM

I haven't watched any replays yet.

Poor Jimmy, and SA.

Am I crazy or wasn't Ocean Park running in the Derby? Maybe i skipped over his name...

Veyron is a nice horse. 2nd year in a row winning this race, right? (I know this or think it from watching too many Sir Slick replays and he was in that one... or maybe I've lost my mind).

Upsala. :) I looked at results last night as I was on my way out and that just made me so happy. Now if only Vonusti could win one...

_ed_ 04-15-2012 12:00 AM

Yeah, Ocean Park was scratched on the morning of the race because of "heat in a leg". It doesn't sound serious - they just took him out of the race as a precaution.

And you're right, it was Veyron's second Easter. No horse has done that since 1960-61. And Veyron's won four G1 races now, with a career record of 13 wins from 21 starts.

Hope she runs well in the Travis. :) I'm really starting to like this girl. She tries so hard every time.

The main race this Saturday is the G3 Hawke's Bay Cup.

1 43783 Doctor Fremantle (GB) 6 100 59.0 Jonathan Riddell Lauren Brennan, Cambridge
2 07677 Vosne Romanee 12 98 58.0 Scratching Jeff Lynds, Awapuni
3 40329 Back In Black 10 97 57.5 Buddy Lammas John Steffert, Te Aroha

17 32311 Precious Time 11 80 53.0 Matthew Cameron Jason Bridgman, Matamata
18 87516 Fromelles 13 80 53.0 John Sargent, Riccarton
19 84473 Aintree 1 80 53.0 Vanessa Johnston Gary Freeman, Kopane
20 05884 Seaflyte 5 79 53.0 Vanessa & Wayne Hillis, Matamata

VR scratched because he's running in another, weaker race the same day.

Quite a few really promising horses in this. I like La Vienne, I think.

The Hombre runs on the undercard as well and will be the even-money favourite.

And, tomorrow at Dargaville, it's...

1 53343 Uppland 6 65 59.0 Matthew Cameron Kenny & Lisa Rae, Ruakaka
2 4210X Whistling Straits 2 63 58.5 Lisa Allpress Donna & Dean Logan, Ruakaka

8 8X8X0 Mojave Aster 8 58 54.0 Leith Innes Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Maungatautari

Uppland is the half-brother to Upsala, so I'd like to see him do well too. Preferably 2nd. :)

my miss storm cat 04-20-2012 10:14 AM

I would be thrilled to have my filly come in 4th. Congrats and remember... next time! :)

No time for fainting so will check out the other card later.

Can't wait to see the Vosne Romanee field and who The Hombre will be beating.

Again, cheers ed. That is fantastic.

my miss storm cat 04-20-2012 09:26 PM

I looked over and over at Hastings... duh!

Okay found it and uh oh Titch, Aussieaussieaussie and Eagle Mountain... do you think he can win this? God I hope so.

Who are you using in the big race?

_ed_ 04-20-2012 09:29 PM

Oh, yeah, sorry, should have mentioned it was at Riccarton! Eagle Mountain is the favourite there after his big run last time. He'll be hard to beat.

I like La Vienne and Jeu de Cartes (half-sister to Nom du Jeu) in the Hawke's Bay Cup.

my miss storm cat 04-20-2012 09:40 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAFMCGxVfCs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjJJEbHdWpw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Delo6epA2c

Okay well that concludes my break! :D :{>:

That's what i want to hear though... later on, after I hear from you who did what and watch the replay? That's it... that would be the best.

Good luck to you and to Jeu de Cartes jus because.

I don't know like half the horses in the field I'm embarrassed to say.

Hope you nail it!

Come home safe, everyone.

_ed_ 04-20-2012 10:51 PM

Flemington upsets! La Vienne second.

Canterbury Gold Cup coming up next.

_ed_ 04-20-2012 11:15 PM

Inferno wins. VR and EM didn't really feature in the finish. I'll have to see the replay to see where they ended up. Disappointing. :(

And a good third for The Hombre. Ginner Hart and Double Barrel finished strongly down the outside and got past him - I don't think he saw them until it was too late.

_ed_ 04-21-2012 07:46 AM

I love the story about Windwhistle, who came 2nd in the G3 Canterbury Gold Cup today.

He was bought as a yearling for $1000.

He's now won $108,360. :) :tro:

_ed_ 04-21-2012 08:42 PM

A photo of Pinzaara. :)

my miss storm cat 04-22-2012 07:33 PM

Great story about Windwhistle and wow your girl is just lovely.

Wow, Time Keeper won a listed stakes race today. First win in more than two years.

my miss storm cat 04-25-2012 06:54 PM

That is great and unexpected news.

What is he now 6 or so? 7?

Happy to hear it. I hope now he'll remember how to do it. :)

_ed_ 04-26-2012 06:17 AM

He's only 5, actually. But he's had a lot of starts - 47. Nicholson really races his horses a lot.

Good field!

Villifye again Postman's Daughter or Platinum Princess? What do you think?

I like Lady Kipling but it's been a while, hasn't it?

Villifye seems like a little win machine.

_ed_ 04-26-2012 02:02 PM

Villifye's been amazing this season. She's won four of her nine starts in 2011/12, and placed three times. Incredible consistency.

It has been a while since Lady Kipling won a good race - December was the last one. But since then she's been 4th behind Shez Sinsational in a G1, second behind Veyron in a G1, sixth behind Scarlett Lady in a G1 and fourth behind Say No More in a G1! So she's not running badly. I think she's right in this. I like her and Postman's Daughter.

Floria never runs a bad race either.

_ed_ 04-28-2012 06:44 AM

Jimmy was disappointing today. :( Had nothing when JR asked him for his usual sprint.

But Burgundy was awesome at Te Rapa in a G3 sprint, and Dolmabache was a 27-1 upset winner of the Travis.

my miss storm cat 04-28-2012 03:17 PM

Yeah I wondered what was going on with Jimmy poor guy.

Why was Mufhasa scratched? He's okay right?

Nice news about the others though.

_ed_ 04-29-2012 05:30 AM

Mufhasa's fine - just a stone bruise. He'll be 100% in a couple of days. :)

As for Jimmy... see the Retirements thread. :(
