However, when you play D like GB did, you can't bitch about the refereeing |

Shitty way to end what was an awesome 2nd half of action. |
I didn't get how the refs missed the call on Fitzgerald, nor the blatant personal foul calls on either of the last two offensive plays for the Packers. Then again, if Aaron Rodgers hadn't kicked the ball in the air, allowing Gansby to pick up the ball before it hit the turf, Green Bay is punting on fourth and whatever because that last play was absolutely, 100 percent the definition of the tuck rule.

Viking love ending this week.

Sigh on Packer fans, always focused on a real team :zz:  |

How about the DPOY Woodson falling down TWICE on Fitzgerald touchdowns, then allowing Rackers to get 15 yards closer by going for the ball instead of the tackle? What a playmaker.
Sorry Bob. |

Believe it or not, I'd rather play Philly than AZ. Their big weakness now with Al Harris out is teams that play 3 wide outs and make the Packers play in the nickel. Their offense can play with anyone now, but the D is still vulnerable if Kurt Warner goes off like Rothleisberger did yesterday.
My post from 12/20...sorry I was right |
As long as the Cardinals bring their refs to NO, they have a puncher's chance. Good god, those refs should have been wearing Cardinal jerseys yesterday. They reminded me of the crooked umpire in the movie Naked Gun.

Just because Asante Samuel is going to the Pro Bowl doesnt mean ANYONE should try to play like him. The most overrated corner in the league and maybe the worst tackler I've ever seen. |

That was a tough loss and a wild and crazy ride yesterday. I guess the good news is that even if the pack won there is no way they could have gone all the way and won the superbowl. Refs sucked, but if you only force one punt you don't deserve to win. This season was great for Rodgers who learned a lot throughout the year and the D had way too many injuries. I guess I start cheering for NO now. |

When a QB like Warner is that "on", there really isnt a whole lot a defense can do. You can't really bring more pressure because he gets rid of the ball so quickly and you cant lay back in coverage or he will dissect you underneath.
The answer to zone blitz pressure schemes is to go empty and spread five wide and then pound the ball when the defense has to switch to dime to cover it. First Oakland with Gannon and New England with Brady would carve up the Pitt defense in the early part of the last decade with this tactic. There really is no answer when the QB is that precise. On some plays, the coverage was perfect and he was still getting the ball in there somehow. Its not like guys were ten yards open and warner had all day. At the end of the day, the Zona defense made a couple of more plays. At the same time, I think yesterday was more about great offense than bad defense. There are times when offenses are just unstoppable. |

So in the end was the whole Favre saga a giant success, a dismal failure, or somewhere in between? Favre certainly exceeded my expectations and had a really good season leading his team to a first round bye. On the other hand, he didn't get to the Super Bowl, he Favred it in the end costing his team a chance at attempting a game winning FG, and does anyone really believe with their schedule that they wouldn't have been a playoff team without Favre? Now they go into next season with just as uncertain a QB situation as they were in this year. They'll have to endure an offseason of "will Favre be back" and are no closer to knowing whether Travaris Jackson will be a serviceable NFL QB. I tend to think it was more a success than a failure since they made the NFC Championship but once they got Favre it was pretty much Super Bowl or bust so in that respect it was a failure.
Also, do people think Childress will/should be canned? I think he should be, that was one of the most poorly coached games I have ever seen, but I don't think he will be. |

I also think that Childress' timeout management and play calling in that game, and specifically the 4th quarter, needs to be talked about. And who takes responsibility for 12 men in the huddle? As bad as Favre's pick was, it should never have come down to them needing to throw on third down. |

They were the better team yesterday and basically gave the game away. Between the turnovers and the terrible coaching they pretty much gave the game to the Saints. I don't think he will be canned, but I think he should be. What happened there in the last 2 1/2 minutes is unforgiveable. I thought Favre played great yesterday. Took a beating and made some great throws. As far as the pick goes, yes it was a bad decision but the terrible coaching put him in a spot where he needed to get them back into FG range. The guy was trying to make a play from a position that the conservative coaching (all of a sudden) and terrible penalty put him into. |
Quote:
I honestly don't think you can blame Childress for the 5 turnovers which could have easily been 7 turnovers yesterday. |

That said, I have a bet with Kevin on the Saints to win the NFC from week 2 so I'm happy to collect and will be rooting for them in the Super Bowl. |

I don't get the criticism of Childress yesterday. Peterson ran for 125 yesterday....they should have run him on 1st and 2nd down from the 33 that last drive. He gets 5 yards, it's easy Longwell range...easy. Perhaps the 12 men was his fault, but the two runs on 1st and 2nd down was absolutely the right thing to do.

He was by far the best football player on the field for FL's 2008 championship, and underrated in the draft because of behavior issues and maybe a lack of wonderlick smarts. He's the only player on the Vikings that I like! |

BTW....Leave the SIZZURP (Codeine Cough syrup + soda + a jolly rancher) as a brotha' thing (just saying.) Everything can't be multi-cultural. |
1) Lost the toss going into OT.
2) Shouldn't have that stupid rule (1st team to score wins the game.) 3) Kicker should of knocked it out of the end zone (instead, a tired team has to cover a return.) 4) Really bad P.I. call in OT (really points out why OT shouldn't be won by the 1st team to get a field goal.) 5) Didn't get the call on a a questionable catch in OT. I've seen that go either way. To me, it's a catch, but often it's not (to them.) 6) Some fool didn't have his hands in the proper position to receive the hand-off from Farve (after the Bush Blunder.) Yep, there's that 3 points that turned out to be rather necessary. 7) Should you really expect a Q.B. to be able to win a game when his team is not taking care of the football at all? 8) How about giving the Saints some credit for pounding him? It's pretty predictable that a hurt Q.B. will be one who makes an important mistake. Fact is he got them to a tie, and then he never got a chance to play in O.T. He made some really nice passes to get them into Saints territory on that last drive. He played a lot better than I expected. The rest of his team played a little worse than I expected. Saints didn't play very well. If they cover like that, then Manning will destroy them. |
