Very nice, Magic Man. :D This was the last thing I could find on him... Cat On Target For Mighty Clash  Story By Jason Hickson Wednesday, 2 April 2008: Trainer Greg Eurell is confident Apache Cat is on target for a successful return to racing in Sydney later this month. The popular galloper had just two starts in the early autumn, winning both the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) down the straight at Flemington and the Group 1 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley. Eurell is adamant the gelding excels early in his campaign so didn't go beyond the two starts in February and will produce him fresh from a break in the Group 1 Sydney City Lexus T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 26. Boasting four Group 1 races, the day is expected to be one of the highlights of the season and may see a clash between Apache Cat and champion sprinter Takeover Target in the sprint. That clash is likely to continue to Queensland where the pair may meet in the BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000. “We're really focusing on just the one run in Sydney then heading up to Brisbane,” Eurell said. “It will make it interesting (against Takeover Target) and could end up quite strong competition.” Eurell said he will give Apache Cat an 800m trial next week before preparing to go to Sydney, where Corey Brown is expected to ride. The Cranbourne trainer said the Stradbroke Handicap would be out of the question as Apache Cat would be weighted too highly, but set out a more ambitious program later in the year. Eurell said he may participate in early spring races before two Group 1 sprints in Japan in September and October as part of the Global Sprint Challenge – the Centaur Stakes and Sprinters Stakes. “They are a couple of sprint races with extremely good prizemoney,” Eurell said. “And they probably slot into his program well.” |

Apache Cat on target for Takeover.
Apache Cat leaves Victoria on Wednesday bound for Sydney and a clash with star sprinter Takeover Target in the T J Smith Stakes at Randwick. A three-time Group One winner, Apache Cat is the best performed older sprinter so far this season with wins at the highest level at his past two starts in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington and in the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley, both in February. "He had two weeks off after the Australia Stakes and it has done him the world of good. He's feeling a million dollars at the moment," trainer Greg Eurell said. The most recognisable horse in Australia courtesy of his striking white blaze, Apache Cat had his main lead-up gallop at Cranbourne Saturday morning. Eurell said he was looking forward to Saturday's challenge of Apache Cat meeting eight-year-old Takeover Target, a five time Group One winner with a cult following. "It doesn't matter whether it's wet or dry, he loves soft ground and he is so good fresh," Eurell said. "I consider myself lucky to have a horse like him. He's a great horse to train, you can do anything with him. "He hasn't had a trial, he doesn't need one." Takeover Target, a winner in three countries including the 2006 Sprinters Stakes in Japan and the Group Two King's Stand Stakes in England, and another T J Smith runner Magnus, runner-up in both the 2008 Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Hcp, are being prepared for the $1 million Kris International Sprint (1200m) in Singapore on May 18. But Eurell has ruled out Apache Cat making the trip. "He won't be going to Singapore. We entered him to keep our options open, but he's a good chance to go to Japan later in the year for the Centaur Stakes and the Sprinters Stakes," Eurell said. "But first he will run in the TJ Smith and then head to Brisbane for the BTC Cup and the Doomben 10,000." Corey Brown, who replaced the ill Michael Rodd and is unbeaten on Apache Cat from two rides, in the Lightning and the Australia Stakes, has retained the mount. _________________ Cant wait :-) |

Cats blood scare
May 21, 2008 12:00am
RAGING Doomben 10,000 favourite Apache Cat was at the centre of a health scare yesterday, but trainer Greg Eurell is confident the horse will run on Saturday. A blood sample taken on Monday suggested Apache Cat was not at his best. But Eurell said yesterday two blood reports since had been much brighter and he had told stewards Apache Cat would be among the final acceptors for the 10,000 (1350m) when they were declared this morning. The Cranbourne trainer will have another precautionary test taken this week, but is confident Apache Cat will be fit to run. The first report was so lopsided Eurell feared something was amiss because the horse appeared to be in good health. A veterinary examination yesterday found no signs of a problem. Earlier, Apache Cat had worked solidly at Canungra in the Gold Coast hinterland. Speculation about the horse prompted punters to back other 10,000 fancies, including Vormista, Reigning To Win and Murtajill. Bookmakers reacted to the move by briefly suspending betting on the Group 1 race. The market reopened after stewards released a clarifying statement, but Apache Cat eased half a point with Darwin Sportsbet to $1.85, and was out to $2 with some agencies. The gelding was "smoking" in his final workout. He was made to work along in a gallop with an unnamed companion and drew away under gentle urging as steam billowed from his nostrils. On a cold morning when the popular chestnut needed three rugs to keep warm in his paddock, Apache Cat looked better than ever. "He loves it here. You can really see he looks forward to everything he does," assistant trainer John Baker said. "He probably does not do as much work as normal horses, but he does plenty of long work and he just needed something to make him work along. "That was just what he wanted. He had something to chase and then run away from." Eurell will fly to Brisbane on Saturday to saddle the gelding, who is chasing his fifth successive Group 1 this year. |

A little bit about him... http://www.smh.com.au/news/horseraci...182992483.html I like Vormista too. Good girl! Has the The jackal run recently? Haven't noticed that name in a while. That said, doubt anyone can beat the Cat. |
RTW should be his main opposition in saying that barrier 3 is a huge avantage on this track as it is tight & usually favours the inside runners 1-6
|
I respect Apache Cat a whole lot, however he looked a little bit beatable in his last to Vormista. I'm going to take a shot tonight/this morning with Reigning To Win. If he has a pace to run at he might surprise.
|
Wow!

Haha nice choice of colour for the "pisses in" bit. Adds effect.

inside barriers up here make it abit easier on the horse:cool: Reckon that blood count was nothing more than a smoke screen:rolleyes: maybe they should call greg into the stewards to explain why the horse went so well;) |
Hopefully we will see Apache Cat in Hong Kong in the not too distant future.
