Very well could be. After a second look, it seems as if he was screened a bit by the two players between the shooter and the goal. That may be a part of the reason for the slow reaction too.

Sweet shot.

This is going to be a fun second half.

Does anyone ever think about trying to stop a guy when you they are beat by half a step instead of stopping, rasing your hand and cry/beg for an offsides call all while the forward is taking a shot a point blank?

What a kick to finish it - Can you find a more dramatic finish. Suarez will be a hero back home!!

I bet he wasn't thinking he was going to be a hero when Gyan stepped up to the spot....but yes, in hindsight, he saved the game.

No matter what he did what had to be done. The game was over if he doesn't use his hand. It was the ONLY play. It was a very smart play, even if it was instinct.

I can't believe what I missed on the commute home......:zz:

Never write off the Germans.. now we will see what Tevez and Messi are made of...

brockguy 07-03-2010 11:49 AM

Thats how you play football.. The Germans are good - The Argies got exposed..

I loved the call of the fourth goal by Martin Tyler, "Brilliant...wonderful...glorious...Germany!" as Klose was putting the ball in the net. His timing was perfect and I thank ESPN for hiring these guys they have calling the play by play.

brockguy 07-03-2010 03:49 PM

This World Cup has been terrific.

Spain - Paraguay had its share of twists and turns.

Yes we were handed our boarding passes by the Black Stars but the quality of their team could be seen in their matches vs Germany and Uruguay. We could be well be ready to take the next step up in Brazil in '14.

Maradona was none too happy.

MaTH716 07-06-2010 02:49 PM

What an amazing perfectly placed shot by the Dutch.

I feel sorry for the Dutch keeper each time Forlan lines up for a free kick.

brockguy 07-07-2010 02:26 PM

This will be a belter of a match Spain v Germany glad im not in work to watch it :)- I think Germany will take them pretty handily to be honest. Ozil and Schweinsteiger will run the show..

brockguy 07-07-2010 04:47 PM

how wrong was I :(. A Netherlands wins makes it a great finish for me!!

brockguy 07-11-2010 07:18 AM

That shot from Forlan that hit the bar last night may have cost me a small fortune. Have him backed at 75-1 to be top scorer.. He's joint first at the moment with 3 others but if Villa and/or Sneijder score tonight then Ill get nothing :( Fantastic man though, the best player at the tournament.

kenny p 07-11-2010 12:37 PM

Can't you bet Villa and Snedjer to score today as a hedge? Good Luck KP

clyde 07-11-2010 12:48 PM

Ken...I don't approve of soccer.

You are walking dangerous ground.

yeah I debating exactly what to do - I have a bit on Villa to be top scorer at 8-1 so have that covered. I also win a fair bit on Holland to win so dont mind if I lose my top scorers bet as long as they win. I think the worst result would be Sneijder scoring but Spain winning.

The level of diving in this game is indeed, world class.

Once those cards came out in the first half, let the divefest begin.

herkhorse 07-11-2010 04:56 PM

s.hit

Coach Pants 07-11-2010 05:00 PM

That play was due to a missed call.

I'm ready for real football.

declansharbor 07-11-2010 05:03 PM

I feel short-changed as a fan for some reason or another.

Let Training Camp begin.

slotdirt 07-11-2010 05:06 PM

Just awful officiating that led to the Iniesta goal. Iniesta should have been carded about five times for simulation that game, yet he somehow ended up with the game winner. That is the opposite of poetic justice.

brockguy 07-11-2010 05:15 PM

disappointing end with Webb blatently missing a corner but Spain deserved it overall... Its mad the pundits over here complain that the game isnt physical anymore, then when the Dutch play very physically they complain that they are thugs

slotdirt 07-11-2010 05:40 PM

Not just the awful missed corner, but the subsequent play where Elia split Ramos and another defender, was taken down, and unlike every other Iniesta dive the entire game, the play went on without a foul. Iniesta makes Cristiano Ronaldo look strong on the ball. Awful stuff.
