Please Morty. The original Planet of the Apes is better.

Spielberg lost me after Jaws and Close Encounters. I do love Close Encounters.

By the way, I would add Stolen Kisses to my list. It's a great movie.

I really liked it..I really did. I didn't even know he did this movie.CE and Cajunatah---I mean Jaws are very big on my list, too.

I do judge a movie in a technical way...without being a very technical movie person, but even more so I judge it on how much it moves me-----how much emotion it digs out of me; thus my inclusuion of this fine film.

I never heard of SK.

Stolen Kisses is Truffaut. It's a sequel to the 400 Blows. Part of four, or five depending on how you look at it, semi-autobiographical movies he made.

I can't remember Jules and Jim..... saw it way too long ago.

Is the Last Metro Deneuve and Depardieu?

Day for Night and Jules and Jim are terrific movies. Most of his stuff is great.

Mortimer 02-22-2008 05:12 PM

OK....I'm taking notes.

Yeah.

Wow, forgot about 400 Blows.

Did you ever see La Notte, the Antonioni film?

Mortimer 02-22-2008 05:16 PM

I was very tempted to put Horror of Dracula here. Those Christopher Lee/Hammer serial movies were to die for.

blackthroatedwind 02-22-2008 05:17 PM

I haven't seen much Antonioni. The Passenger and Blow Up and one of his supposed classics which I barely remember.

Mortimer 02-22-2008 05:19 PM

Hard Times and Mean Streets are great off the track movies.

Maybe there should be a T-10 for off the main trackers.

Mortimer 02-22-2008 05:19 PM

I am inspired to do so.

I'll come up wth mine later.

Coach Pants 02-22-2008 05:19 PM

Best Tom Hanks Movie...

Turner and Hooch

Best Picture.........

I've only seen 3 of the 5 films up for Best Picture. "There Will Be Blood" and "Atonement" are the ones I've yet to see. The class of the other three films to me is "No Country For Old Men". The film is laden with suspense, the performances are incredible from top to bottom. First rate screenplay, beautiful cinematography, and amazing direction. Another masterpiece from Joel and Ethan Coen, who were IMO deserving of the award for for top film in 1996 for "Fargo". It took home awards for original screenplay, and Best Actress for wonderful work from Frances McDormand as the very pregnant police chief on the trail of 2 cop killers. However, it lost Best Picture to "The English Patient" a fine film as well, but no the classic that "Fargo" was. So, in my opinion the Coen brothers and "No Country For Old Men" deserve to recognition in several categories, and I feel that will happen. Still you never know, maybe some upsets will occur. I'd rank "Michael Clayton" next best of the films I've seen this past year.
My list in no order, just off the top of my head here are a few favorite films.
Godfather I and II(2 being the more brilliant)
Fargo
Raging Bull(Best sports film ever)
The Departed(Academy got it right last year)
Crash(And the year before, with the brillant Paul Haggis film)
Do The Right Thing (Spike Lee's most brilliant film)
Apocalypse Now
One False Move( brilliant film directed by Carl Franklin, Billy Bob Thorton is in it, and co-wrote the screenplay.
Mystic River
I could go, on and on, but I'll stop.:D

Agreed. Mean Streets is obviously a classic ( " what's a mook " ) and Charles Bronson as the bare knuckle boxer in Hard Times is excellent.

Yeah I haven't seen all of them..... just a few.

Il Deserto Rosso was good.

Good cast.

blackthroatedwind 02-22-2008 05:22 PM

One False Move!

I love that movie.

Mortimer 02-22-2008 05:26 PM

Scrooge with Allistair Sims..???..can't quite bring up the name....was very close for mine as well.

AeWingnut 02-22-2008 05:27 PM

I really hated Saving Private Ryan

the Americans all died horrible and the Germans only died while trying to surrender.

blackthroatedwind 02-22-2008 05:27 PM

Morty, have you seen " One False Move? "

If not.......get it. It's tremendous.

Mortimer 02-22-2008 05:28 PM

Have not...adding to the list.

It's brilliant, how bout the work of Michael Beach as Pluto the quiet, and brutal killer? I thought it was the best film of that year, and of course it go overlooked at award time.

blackthroatedwind 02-22-2008 06:05 PM

Everything about it is great. Billy Bob ( didn't he write it as well? ) and Bill Pullman are both excellent. It's one of my favorites.

Either that or another round of Bingo at the church.

Anyone think the movie wins out?

Random thoughts..

Fargo should have been on my list

as should Apocalypse Now

I don't see nearly enough..ok..any foreign language films

How did/does BTW see so many movies between Dead shows and horses?

Morty's comments were sensitive, insightful and personal...obviously an imposter

Not enough Hitchcock movies included

No votes for the consensus #1 movie of all time?..

If this poll was taken on December 15th, Wonderful Life and Christmas Story on all lists

Any Seabiscuit votes?

Thankfully, Out of Africa yet to appear

I'll start with A Fan's Notes and American Pastoral. Midnight's Children may be up there as well.

Billy Bob did indeed either pen the screenplay, along with Tom Epperson. It was Carl Franklin's directorial debut. By the way it was Bill Paxton that play Dale "Hurricane" Dixon. Your right about everything in the film is great.

That's another film I must see, so many films I've missed. I used to go more regularly then recently, but I'll add that one to my Blockbuster online list. Thanks Andy.

I've never read Rushdie. Meant to but never got around to it.

Have you read One Hundred Years of Solitude (Garcia-Marquez)?

One of my favorites.

blackthroatedwind 02-23-2008 12:32 AM

I've read pretty much everything Garcia Marquez wrote. Solitude is a great book.

Oh yes.

BLECH.

blackthroatedwind 02-23-2008 09:35 AM

Perhaps you should change your name to Avery Jealousman.

Mortimer 02-23-2008 09:38 AM

I fancy myself as I am the only one here who has seen Peter Ibbetson.

Couple that with having met Jake LaMotta,Gary Kucinich and Pete Rademacher( have you ...Andrew??? ) as well as being 2 time National AAU welterweight champion..........and what you have is...

....it jest don't git no better 'an 'at.
