Anyone getting into O'Hare around 9:30ish on race day that wants to split a cab to the track? Looks like the cheapest rental cars at O'Hare are running about $60 after taxes.

A cab is meter and half to Arlington ( considered suburbs)..It will cost you about $40 plus tip if you get one from the cab line. It's only about $28 plus tip if it's a pre arranged rided. Call info for 303 Cab Company

Thanks, sounds like the rental car is a better option if no one else is arriving around 9:30ish that wants to split a cab.

Especially considering that cab fare is only one way..you still have to get back. They really do the screw job to you on cabs, etc from O'Hare

Yeah, that is pretty bad. Any suggestions for killing a couple hours between 9:30 AM and noon?

Well, if you actually land at 9:30, it will be the first flight to land at O'Hare on time this year. Gates open at 11:15AM so you won't have too much time, especially if you get a car which involves shuttle etc. Get into AP as soon as it opens and just wander..lots of good food and places to check out

Cool, thanks, will be my first time at Arlington Park so exploring the area around there sounds like a plan.

Doesn't their Metro rail system go to Arlington Park. Whenever I travel to Chitown and go into O'Hare, I hop on that and go right to Wrigley, downtown, all over?

The trick is getting to Metra. There are 2 transits..Metra is the train which stops at AP, but the El (subway) is what you take downtown from the airport. There is no subway from O'Hare to suburbs and there is no Metra ( train) to O'Hare. So you would have to take a cab to a Metra station ( I know..how stupid is that) or take an El all the way into the city and then walk to the train station and come back out again. You think the cab compainies have clout here or what>?

Yes, Metra has a drop off right there. The Metra / Union Pacific District Northwest Line.

I used to sneak on when I was like 14 and get off without paying train fare because I needed the $2 for the late DD.

What you can do, and this is pretty complicated, is take the "L" from O'Hare to Jefferson Park, and then hop on the Metra going NW to get off at AP....

Alot easier to get a car and just drive it. Whoever is getting rental cars let me know and I'll get you easy directions. The key is Manheim(?) Road

from Ohare you can take a 303 taxi for $28.

another option is take the blue line to Irving park, then transfer to the metra line that runs right out to Arlington park. that will only cost like $5 but takes a little more time.

using this link you can find different ways to get where you need to go.

its just when you run the trip query it says to take Irving Park. I'm not sure why but I'm sure its also possible even though it looks farther.

When I was younger and went to Wrigley I had to get on the Metra to Jefferson and then hope the Metra to the L to get to Addison and then the bus, now I can just drive to Rosemont and be done with it....
