How exciting!!!

Okay I know he IS Remarkable but I'm gonna say Jimmy wins, the Remarkable one 2nd (which could be completely ridiculous, not sure) and either Icepin, Cellmaster or Twilight Savings for 3rd.

Of course I will silently root for Upsala and hope that both he and Encosta Diablo do well enough... (especially Upsala :{>: ).

Have a great time, ed! :)

_ed_ 11-04-2010 11:59 PM

Lots of rain down there today, apparently! :( The track has gone from a Good 2 to a Dead 4. Uh oh. That makes it even more confusing.

my miss storm cat 11-05-2010 01:41 PM

I dont expect a miracle of any kind but just wondering... how does Upsala do on a dead trrack?

So it was Jimmy / He's Remarkable / Twilight Savings. Yea! :D

Now that is impressive! :) There were too many I liked in this race, so I decided to just watch.

I didn't know the answer to that until today...not good! I'm happy to forgive him for that.

But wow, Jimmy. What more can you say? I've never seen him run so well (and he's run loads of good races!) I thought he was gone about 300m from the finish, but he just kept finding more and more and kept fighting. Such a brave win.

And just in case we didn't already know, the run of the second horse proved that he really, really is remarkable. :) He's going to be so hard to beat in the Derby in March.

I also loved this undercard stakes race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrA2bf_AkaU

Yes, that was great! They showed that race on the big screen at the track, and the crowd went crazy.

Yes he absolutely does. :tro:

Oh my God ed I just watched both, well Jimmy winning twice.

Lovely. Just amazing.:tro:

Very cool about showing the Wall Street race.

Is it me or is the Upsala jockey hitting him when he's already looking like he's going in reverse?

clyde 11-07-2010 03:26 PM

Oh shop it.

FGFan 11-07-2010 08:01 PM

He's mad I called him a troll.

You're right. :( I hadn't noticed that. Taylor hardly ever rides in the big races, so maybe the occasion got to him, but that's no excuse. I see he got a warning for that.

But it was such an awesome day. I was like "what I have I got myself into?" when I left a warm, sunny Auckland and got to Christchurch - it was 7 degrees Celsius (about 40F I think), windy and raining, and a duck waddled across the paddock as I was walking through the gate at the track! But the racing made it worth it. The rain stopped in time for the big races as well.

Apparently Jimmy's going for the Derby now. I'm a bit unsure about that. He's a BRILLIANT miler, but at a mile and a half against Lion Tamer and He's Remarkable? I don't know. I'd prefer to see him stick to shorter distances. His dad, Thorn Park, was all speed. I don't see stamina in his pedigree.

But he's a wonderful colt, and good luck to them.

How far is Christchurch from where you are?

Too cute about the duck.

Morty this thread is about NZ racing.

There are some fantastic replays with horses you might not know... check it out!

OR go play somewhere else.

About 500 miles, so just over an hour in a plane.

I usually go down for the whole week, but the friends there that I stay with are overseas at the moment. So I'm just going to the two Saturdays this time.

So I won't see tomorrow's G2 Mile, which Wall Street won brilliantly last year with Tell A Tale second.

Here's this year's field:

1 03263 Fritzy Boy 11 105 58.0 Noel Harris Alby MacGregor, Opaki
2 20X51 Barinka 5 103 57.0 Hayden Tinsley Karen Zimmerman, Otaki
3 30745 Hold It Harvey (AUS) 2 102 56.5 Jamie Bullard Terri Rae, Riccarton Park
4 25X47 O'Cartier 18 101 56.0 Chris Johnson John & Karen Parsons, Balcairn
5 X4201 Alagant Satin 3 99 55.0 Sam Spratt Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge
6 25X11 The Meista 15 99 55.0 Ashlee Mundy Peter & Dawn Williams, Riccarton Park
7 0X0X3 Occidentalis (AUS) 14 98 54.5 James McDonald (a) Richard & Chris Otto, Te Awamutu
8 LX012 Altered Image 17 96 53.5 Michael Coleman Michael Moroney & Andrew Clarken, Matamata
9 43162 Royal Flight 1 96 53.5 Jay Misbah Brian & Shane Anderton, Wingatui
10 19X19 El Chico 16 94 53.5 Lisa Allpress Michael Pitman, Yaldhurst, Riccarton
11 1X003 Diamond Skeem 13 94 53.0 Scratching Shane Kennedy, Riccarton Park
12 5X412 Minqar Qaim (AUS) 8 94 53.0 Jason Collett (a) Jason Bridgman, Rangiora
13 6X512 November Rain 19 90 52.5 Michael Walker Richard Collett, Pukekohe Park
14 21212 Jack's Point 10 88 52.0 Darryl Bradley Lisa Latta, Awapuni
15 73953 All In Tempo 9 86 51.0 Samantha Collett Bryce Revell, New Plymouth
16 1X111 Shamrox 12 85 51.0 Danielle Johnson (a) Daniel Champion & Kezia Murphy, Ashburton
17 7X047 Glamorous Girl 6 82 51.0 Mark Du Plessis Roger James, Cambridge
18 3X251 Our Bee Jay 7 78 51.0 Paul Taylor Lisa Vaughan, Ascot Park
19 X7312 Rochallen (AUS) 4 78 51.0 Graeme & Mark Sanders, Te Awamutu

Fritzy Boy is the favourite. I like him, Alagant Satin, The Meista, Altered Image, November Rain and Glamorous Girl.

Shamrox is interesting - 4 starts, 4 easy wins. This is her first try at stakes level.

my miss storm cat 11-08-2010 10:17 PM

Clydie... watch some of the replays one day.

They have some seriously great horses over there.

Just one day when you have some time...

What a win. He's terrific.

And in the sprint race, this little speed machine made it 12 wins from 19, and he's won this race two years in a row now.

1:08.05 - flying!

my miss storm cat 11-10-2010 11:01 AM

Oh my God I was watching and Fritzy Boy running for fun... running, running, la la la la la so easy :D I thought he was going to win but right at the wire I thought wait a minute, Altered Image is the one who had that fall, huh? Am I remembering this right?

Well good for him!

I couldn't tell where Fritzy ended (5th? 6th?) but a nice run from him and please let me know if the winner is the guy I'm remembereing.

That other race? Flying indeed!

_ed_ 11-10-2010 07:17 PM

You're right, he had a bad fall in August 2009. He had more than a year away from racing. It's so great to see him back at the same level he was when he won a G1 by 4 lengths as a 3yo.

Fritzy was 4th and only two noses away from 2nd! He was brave under a big weight.

my miss storm cat 11-10-2010 10:39 PM

NIce to see both of them do well.

Any word on our Sir lately?

Not good...
http://www.racingandsports.com.au/ra...asp?NID=193193

_ed_ 11-11-2010 05:52 AM

That's a shame, but he'll be valuable at stud.

Sir Slick was a close 5th or 6th in a G3 last week. He still tries his heart out and runs good races, but he's not the dominant, unstoppable champion he was in 2007-8. :( Having 129 starts would do that to you! He's only won 2 of his last 48. :(

_ed_ 11-11-2010 11:36 PM

Sunsett (3 f Hussonet - Sunline) was placed today. A win shouldn't be far away for her. :)

_ed_ 11-12-2010 04:58 AM

Great field for the NZ 1000 Guineas (G1) tomorrow.

1 21144 Rememba Howe 3 84 56.0 Noel Harris Evan & J J Rayner, Wanganui
2 11X13 Twilight Savings 4 84 56.0 Leith Innes Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge
3 21221 Zennista 10 84 56.0 Darryl Bradley Lisa Latta, Awapuni
4 17X99 Banchee 2 80 56.0 James McDonald (a) John Sargent, Matamata
5 12X51 We Can Say It Now (AUS) 1 75 56.0 Mark Du Plessis Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge
6 9X351 Belles Fast (AUS) 5 74 56.0 Lisa Allpress Allan Sharrock, New Plymouth
7 11325 Dating 8 74 56.0 Sam Spratt Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Tuhikaramea
8 152 Elusive Tracy 17 74 56.0 David Walsh Aaron Bidlake, Opaki
9 75X21 King's Rose 11 74 56.0 Opie Bosson Jason Bridgman, Rangiora
10 11516 Magic Briar 13 74 56.0 Hayden Tinsley Ken & Bev Kelso, Matamata
11 2131 Sworn To Secrecy 14 74 56.0 Scratching Andrew Scott, Matamata
12 1X464 Smoulder 6 73 56.0 Chad Ormsby Graeme & Mark Sanders, Te Awamutu
13 X1207 Princess Emmy 15 72 56.0 Jamie Bullard John Sargent, Matamata
14 X2412 Heart's Delight (AUS) 12 70 56.0 Chris Johnson Kenny & Lisa Rae, Ruakaka
15 31263 Miss Maximuss 16 69 56.0 Michael Coleman Michael Pitman, Yaldhurst, Riccarton
16 31428 Red Horizon 7 69 56.0 Craig Grylls Richard & Chris Otto, Te Awamutu

I hope Banchee finds her best form here. She'll be so hard to beat if she does. Twilight Savings is one of the best fillies in the race as well, as long as she's recovered from her tough run last weekend. But WCSIN is the favourite, and deserves to be.

my miss storm cat 11-12-2010 02:05 PM

Why does she deserve to be the favorite? Can you refresh my momery?

Rememba Howe looked alright that last time but yes of course am rooting for the 2 girls you mentioned. :)

_ed_ 11-13-2010 04:34 AM

WCSIN beat the boys very nicely in a stakes race in October, and that was the same race Katie won last year before winning both Guineas races.

WCSIN was a bit unlucky today - the interference she suffered led to the second-placed Magic Briar being disqualifed - but I don't think she was going well enough to challenge the amazing winner.

Replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld8bv7JQXjs

The result after the DQ of Magic Briar:

King's Rose
Twilight Savings
Smoulder
We Can Say It Now
Magic Briar

Ears pricked!

King's Rose is by Redoute's Choice out of a Nureyev mare, and she was fabulous today. No luck in her trip, wide all the way, but still way too good. I never really noticed her until today, but she blew me away with this performance.

my miss storm cat 11-18-2010 07:08 PM

That was a rough race!

Hey what did you think of this one?

http://www.thoroughbrednews.com.au/n....aspx?id=49973

_ed_ 11-18-2010 07:16 PM

I missed her race yesterday - I was stuck in the university library all day. Same again today, but I'll have a look at a replay when I get home and get back to you.

Tomorrow, Katie Lee has her first race since the Melbourne disaster - back here in Auckland. It's a nice G2 field:

1 915X1 Dancing Jess 9 101 57.0 Chris Johnson Dick & Chris Bothwell, Stratford
2 0X319 Katie Lee (AUS) 16 100 57.0 Opie Bosson Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Tuhikaramea

6 2X426 Sharp Princess 7 98 57.0 Lisa Allpress Fraser Auret, Marton
7 96531 Eileen Dubh 17 94 57.0 Jonathan Riddell Francis Finnegan, Woodville
8 217X0 Dasoudi 10 86 57.0 Danielle Johnson (a) Jon Miller, Pukekohe Park
9 6X678 Obsession 3 85 57.0 Matthew Cameron Frank Ritchie, Cambridge
10 760X1 Adaline (AUS) 5 84 57.0 Leith Innes Stephen McKee, Ardmore
11 86X95 Scarlet Vanhara 6 82 57.0 David Walsh Ross Elliot, Cambridge
12 48X21 Fazzle 4 80 57.0 Mark Hills Moira Murdoch & Dominic Olson, Waiuku
13 97X32 Santangelo 12 80 57.0 Jason Collett (a) Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Maungatautari
14 35X1L Our Ella Belle 14 79 57.0 Vinnie Colgan Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Maungatautari
15 919X3 Mercury Mistress 15 77 57.0 Alvin Ng (a) Lance Noble, Matamata
16 21342 Cool Storm 8 74 51.0 Mark Du Plessis Stephen McKee, Ardmore
17 5152 Yankee Wharf (AUS) 1 69 57.0 Ben Foote, Byerley Park

This is what her co-trainer says about her terrible last race:

Quote:

"You can probably forget she went around in Melbourne," said co-trainer Debbie Rogerson. "They had rain in the morning, she got pole-axed at the start then galloped on. Nothing went to plan, so we brought her home."
It's good to hear valid reasons - I knew she wasn't the 9th best in that race.

There's also this really hot 2yo stakes field. I don't expect you to be familiar with these names, but I suggest you take note of whoever wins it - Lion Tamer won this race last year.

1 211 Antonio Lombardo 2 75 56.0 Andrew Calder Peter McKay, Matamata
2 11 Brackenwood 3 74 56.0 Darryl Bradley Lisa Latta, Awapuni
3 2 Witz End (AUS) 10 58 56.0 Mark Du Plessis Stephen McKee, Ardmore
4 Caipirinha 4 50 56.0 Lisa Allpress Robert Priscott & Clayton Chipperfield, Te Awamutu
5 Into The Storm (AUS) 12 50 56.0 Vinnie Colgan Bruce Wallace, Takanini
6 1 Holy Moly 13 69 54.5 Matthew Cameron Roger James, Cambridge
7 1 Precise 8 69 54.5 Lynsey Satherley Linda Laing, Cambridge
8 17 Miss Upstart (AUS) 7 66 54.5 Michael Coleman Graham Richardson, Matamata
9 2 Lady Chapel 1 59 54.5 Opie Bosson Keith & Brendon Hawtin, Te Awamutu
10 436 Perfect Katch 6 54 54.5 Craig Grylls Donna, Dean Logan & Chris Gibbs, Ruakaka
11 47 Czechout Girl (AUS) 9 53 54.5 Chad Ormsby Ben Foote, Byerley Park
12 8 Shezakoolone 5 50 54.5 Jason Collett (a) Craig Ritchie, Pukekohe Park
13 Simply Magic 11 50 54.5 Leith Innes Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge

my miss storm cat 11-19-2010 05:26 PM

Good luck to Katie. :tro:

You were right... I don't know a single name in the other field but let us know what happened!
