Desert God stood at the U of A for awhile. Wonder if Joe Allen has any relation to Ron Allen who worked with Desert God at the university?

Just looked it up... Desert God is owned by Joe and Ron Allen! Good for Ron he's a great guy.

Maybe this mare "Hang Glide" has a bunch of nice hicks from the sticks involved with her too. I'll just assume that she does, and will therefore cheer for her to win instead of Pepper's Pride.
I really can't believe that many of you are going to be cheering against Hang Glide. Why do you all hate her so much? I mean she is five years old, she's from New Mexico, and yet MMSC and kgar and many others are hoping that she gets beat in this race. Man, you guys are just mean. What did poor Hang Glide ever do to you guys? People complain about others ducking tough horses and then along comes this little warrior in Hang Glide who isn't afraid to tackle the New Mexican Monster, and you pack of meanies all want her to lose? Go Hang Glide. |

Good Pics and remarks Steve....I heard him on your show and HRTV. yeah like some said above it's apples and oranges, Cigar or Citation to Pepper's Pride. But it's got to be a really fun ride for them and they sound like really nice horsemen. Go Pepper's Pride, I hope she wins and beats that sweet lil filly Hang Glide. |

Everyone probably "loves to hate" them. |
Count me on the Hang Glide bandwagon. Hang Glide ftw!!!

everyone talks about citation and cigar when they speak of this great record. but where's mention of mister frisky and hallowed dreams? exactly! they aren't there, because no one cares about them. just like peppers pride will be a trivial spot in history, but cigar and citation will still be revered, record holder or not. it's not as tho man o war has been forgotten because records he set are long-broken. |

Yeah, but both of your above posts are talking about horses being TIED with legends in the record book. That's not what we are talking about here. We are talking about her breaking the record. Of course nobody will forget Citation and Cigar if their record is broken. That isn't the point at all. Nobody forgot Dan Marino just because his records were broken, but does that mean I have to hope they do get broken? I dont think so. I like Dan Marino better than Brett Favre. Therefore, I wanted Marino rather than Favre to have those records. For this record, I like some of the current record holders better than Peppers Pride, therefore I want them - rather than her - to have the record. It is pretty much that simple.
Why don't you just admit your real motivation here? You - like the rest of "them" - just hate Hang Glide and want to see her lose. ;) |

lol i just think if she does break it, that it'll become another basically meaningless record. whether that matters or not, i don't know. most record holders for various distances are unknowns, she'll be anonymous along with them. i think most folks can only name one or two world record holders at most.... but i see your point, i can't argue with it at all. now, that rat hang glide....arghhh. ;) |

She was from the 2003 foal crop - which means that she is 1 of exactly 750 horses foaled in the state of New Mexico that year.
Let's assume half of which were male and half of which were female. That means she's one of 375 females. Keep in mind - there are always going to be some that never make the races. I also believe New Mexico breds from that time were by sires and dams worth about however much meat they have on their bone. I don't see anything at all impressive about this horse. Being the best New Mexico bred is like being the prettiest girl at the fat camp. |

Being the best New Mexico bred ever is like being the least biggest tard to ever post in the politcs/society forum on this site.

She won. :)

I've been watching racing since before most of you were born. I love and respect the history and nostalgia of this sport. Peppers Pride steps into deserved territory that history will appreciate appropriately. |
Joe Allen's restuarant is awesome. Good food, huge portions. I dont care about New Mexico racing though.

I dont care if they give New Mexico back to old Mexico. Though Zia Park has a certain zing to it. |
congrats to the pride of new mexico, pepper's pride. lol and here's to those who failed geography and don't think new mexico is part of the 50 states....
she won't go down as the greatest in history, but she is now considered the most consistent. she's carved out her own little tiny place in horse racing lore. |
