The thing is that Kieran sure sounded like he was a GO for the KY Derby,no matter what happens. He will have enough Graded Earnings(already at 270,000).

Dry Track=Eats Money and runs bad
Slop=Eats Money and decent chance of Winning

Slop at Gulf doesn't = slop everywhere....Everyone just needs to slow down. It was an impressive race yesterday, let's give him that. You play against him in the FOY and make him do it again. After that we reassess....Team break.

I would not touch him in the FOY unless it is OFF again. I am just saying that it sounds like after yesterday they are gonna run in the Derby no matter what he does from now on. He already has enough money for it .

Playalong thread talked about the performance of WASHINGTON RULES Saturday in his 2nd career start. McPeek Roman Ruler gelding with an 87 Beyer in the GP 5th. Came running under Kent D. to nail the Pletcher firster San Pablo at the wire. There was buzz about the horse and he was ridden with supreme confidence and like he had plenty yet to give.

As I mentioned yesterday, there is a wacky backstory with this horse. Vets said he wouldn't make the races and he was gelded and given away as a pony. McPeek went to the client who had the horse last year and wanted to know what happened to him and was told that they had given him away. McPeek said to get him back and they did. Now you'll see him in the Fountain of Youth. You can't make this stuff up.

I thought San Pablo ran a huge race, and will definitely be one to watch going forward.

Thanks, Steve! I think Crossbow is a sprinter/miler, but at least he showed he could rate last time. I'll make the trek to my local OTB to watch this race...

The horse that Crossbow beat, The Fed Eased, romped today by 7 lengths at Aqueduct in 1:10 and change, so this flatters Crossbow.............

Betsy 01-29-2011 02:11 PM

I made trip to OTB to see Crossbow and the race played out like I thought it would. I wasn't in love with the idea of another speed duel, but with Sovereign Default in the race, that was inevitable. SD is fast and had the 1 whole and so neither colt could afford to let the other get away. It was a ding dong race all the way around. Both ran very well -and SD was very game. I think they got somewhat leg weary........the time was a second slower than nice older mares went. I read on Derby Contenders twitter that McLaughlin is considering the Hutcheson or Swale for Crossbow -or potentially taking him elsewhere to stretch out.

Uncle Mo today

had his first workout, 3 furlongs in 39 and 4/5

Stay Thirsty also worked : 3 furlongs in 37

Betsy 01-30-2011 10:38 AM

These lists will change after today and after every race basically, but after the first two (Mo and THAS), it's a tossup. Jon White having Tiz Blessed at #2 seems pretty strange to me...........and so does Mike Penna (not sure who he is) having Astrology and Santiva as #2 and #3.

tjfla 01-30-2011 02:21 PM

Crossbow might go to Hutcheson next and Stay Thirsty is headed back to NY for the Gotham.

Big question is if Stay Thirsty runs 1 or 2,where does he go next? Will Repole run him against Mo in the Wood or send him to Illinois?

He's not going to run against Mo no matter what, but why would you think Illinois would be the other option?

tjfla 01-30-2011 03:14 PM

Gotta think Illinois would be easier then running on the poly or in Arkansas.

I don't think he would run him in the Wood(I know Repole does not want to) however a 2nd place in the Wood would be a nice paycheck as well as prolly get him in the Derby if he did want to run him against Mo
