Nicanor grabbed a quarter leaving the gate...

How long does it take a horse to recover from that generally? I'm sure it depends on how badly he nailed himself. The Jacksons can't catch a break with that starting gate. Nicanor tried though, bless'im. Couldn't have felt too good. I can only imagine how Edgar felt given he was on Barbaro's brother and the horse felt uncomfortable.

heard that the green monkey watched the race and is thinking about a comeback...he thinks he could beat him.

If only other horses would ever try. I'm glad to finally have one born that tries. God bless Nicanor.

You gotta love overhyped blue bloods. They always help create value elsewhere on the board.

True - However, Jeff Siegel said the private clockers were raving about her, and I'm sure she was working on the synthetic. I won't give up on her (naturally) - she did break slowly - but she didn't put in any kind of run. I guess we'll see next time out.

What did you think of Rail Trip? I'm in the minority on another board - I love the horse because I love Jump Start -because I just need to see waaaaaaaaay more before I proclaim this horse a star. If he were to be kept sprinting, I can see it. However, how many times have we seen horses blow out allowance fields and then get cut to ribbons when asked to make the step up? His speed scares me as well - I suspect he can't rate and, if that's the case, he will always be susceptible to another speed horse.

Now that was funny. I don't care who you are.

side note

while a lot of champion horses hit the ground running, some take a while to realize their greatness.

here are the first 3 races for the following:

secretariat- 4th, 1st, 1st
ferdinand- 8th, 3rd, 2nd
johnhenry- 1st, 3rd, 2nd
sunday silence- 2nd, 1st, 2nd
cigar- 7th, 1st, 4th
serenas song- 5th, 4th, 1st
tiznow- 6th, 2nd, 1st

so lets not throw him away just yet.
also, none of the horses listed above tried to run a mile first out.

Considering his performance he might want to hold onto it.

Travis Stone 02-01-2009 11:31 AM

Who would have thought a horse that lost a maiden by so many lengths would have five pages worth of discussion.

he's gotten far more attention since day one than he ever should have; certainly never earned any of it.

i understand that rock slide is off his feed, he's sore about it all.

nicanor has a far better shot at being a second holy ground than he does at being anywhere close to being another barbaro.

Anyone (even quasi-regularly) frequenting this forum?

Travis Stone 02-01-2009 01:37 PM

I understand how it came about, and those of us know siblings in horse racing don't necessarily emulate their elders too well.

But I think it speaks to a larger issue... there was a grade one race yesterday, and an unraced horse stole the show. Did an unraced horse ever steal the show from Forego, Secretariat, Man O War, Spectacular Bid etc... it's where racing is today.

the_fat_man 02-01-2009 01:43 PM

What interesting (actually, it's not, it's pathetic) is that there were so many threads (here and elsewhere) about This One For Phil, his performance and the juicing issue. And yesterday we have TRULY UNFAIR CONDITIONS, a track bias at GP, that impacted upon TWO of their major races YET

nobody gives a **** about THIS UNFAIRNESS. Only whether some INDIVIDUAL is juicing. You take the JUICE and I'll take the BIAS and we'll see who wins, EVERY TIME.

letswastemoney 02-01-2009 01:44 PM

I also agree that very few horses emulate their siblings. People are looking for Barbaro Part 2, and that's not going to happen.

I was thinking the same thing Travis, especially considering there was only 3 pages devoted to my Bday thread...and that didnt even include a birthday wish from Andy:rolleyes:

Oh cute a snide remark. Gee, wasn't expecting that. No no really. one would never guess that from you. All those unicorns and rainbows on your wallpaper really throw people off.

I think you're gonna get Holy Ground 2 judging by the connections' discussion of how he's more physically like that sibling than Barbaro. Could be worse. (And if the peanut gallery could keep it together after that last sentence...well I'll be stunned, what can I say.) Sounds like Lentenor's getting more buzz as the second coming and he's got some charisma from what I saw in the Bloodhorse video.
