On the shooting side, whether it's mental illness (Sandy Hook), racial overtone (this horrific mess in South Carolina), socially disengaged (Columbine) or economic/familial distress (workplace shootings anywhere), there are bigger root causes at play far beyond the gun control part of the equation.

(And when have I ever not assuaged your testiness?)

Most of these 'lone wolf' shooters are 'shut-ins'. No socializing outside of the internet. Easily influenced by manipulators (and they're in abundance) on the fringe forums and Darknet.

I looked at a few photos of this young man and he was once a happy individual. In the span of a year or so his face completely changed. And he was openly talking to his roommate about doing horrific things to minorities and that buffoon didn't tell one authority figure until now.

This is insanity.

What the left and right need to do is arguably come to a compromise on mental health care. We already subsidize so many aspects of health care yet this is one that is sorely underfunded.

And this goes against my core beliefs about government but I'm not going to kid myself and not see the mental decline in a few of my neighbors and the assorted characters throughout this city.

Best way to keep tabs on them is have them talking to someone who takes good notes. ;)

Yet today the House passed TAA.

TAA/TPA really about keep the trade and supply lines hassle free for our future conflicts with China/Russia/Iran

Roof didnt do this because of video games. It was hate.

Mr. Roof’s current address is listed in public records as being in this rural speck of a town southeast of Columbia with an overwhelmingly black population. On Mr. Roof’s Facebook profile, which was taken down Thursday, many of his 88 friends were black. More than half a dozen cars from the Richland County sheriff’s office were parked along the dusty driveway outside the two-story wood-frame home in Eastover. A man in a straw hat came out of the house and told a reporter: “Make your way right back where you came from. Get off the property now.”

From school records, Mr. Roof appears to have moved back and forth as a child between Richland County, which includes Columbia and Eastover, and nearby Lexington County to the west. He attended ninth grade twice: at White Knoll High School in Lexington in the 2008-9 school year and, the next school year, at White Knoll until February 2010, when he transferred to Dreher High School in Columbia. Neither school district had records of his finishing high school.

A neighbor in Eastover, Debra Scott, 50, said that she had seen Mr. Roof walking to and from a nearby market but that she knew very little about him or anyone else who might live in his house. She described the house as “very quiet” and said Mr. Roof “seemed like a normal kid.”

But Ms. Scott, who is black, said she was “scared to death” after hearing news reports that Mr. Roof wanted to kill black people. “My concern is that he’s saying he’s out to kill black people,” she said, unaware that he had been arrested. “We’re the closest ones to him.”

She added that her grandmother had called her Thursday morning and told her: “Get out of that bed. That boy was from Garners Ferry,” the name of the street where she and Mr. Roof lived.

Mr. Meek said that as a child, Mr. Roof would sometimes sleep over at his house. He described Mr. Roof as so quiet and shy that “his mom pushed him out of the house and told him to make friends.” He added, “Every friend he made, I made for him.”

Mr. Roof dropped out of high school after the ninth grade, Mr. Meek said, and the two fell out of touch. But this year, Mr. Roof sent him a Facebook friend request and the two got together again, often to go drinking or to strip clubs. Mr. Roof liked vodka and water, Mr. Meek said, adding, “I never saw him with a girl.”

He said Mr. Roof worked in landscaping and seemed to live an itinerant life, sometimes sleeping in his car. In recent weeks his behavior turned more bizarre, as he talked about wanting to burn an American flag and get his neck tattooed with the word “dagger.”

The friends last saw Mr. Roof on Tuesday when Ms. Fry found him sleeping in his car parked on a sandy patch in front of Mr. Meek’s house. Asked if she considered that odd, Ms. Fry replied, “He does weird things all the time.”

To start a race war....Charlie Manson all over again! We simply must address mental health issues and take a long hard look at how critical MH/MR info is dispensed and shared.

Turns out the President and I were both wrong. Norway is the mass shooting capital of the world by far when population is considered. Then there's the fact the four countries ranked above the U.S. all have restrictive gun laws. Feelings over facts rule again.:wf

FTFY

2009-2013. You are presenting this as if it reflects 19-June-2015. :zz: Again Cherry picked facts over reality. I certainly don't have anything updated but I gotta call you out on posting 2009-2013 as if it reflects the current situation.

So you're saying there have been 4,651 killed in the mass shootings in the past 2 years here? Because that would be what it would take for us to equal Norway provided there hasn't been any killed via mass shootings there.

The chart is outdated by 2 years old but simple math, provided the USA has a population of 319 million, extrapolates the above number that we are fortunately way short of.

Again feelings over facts usually isn't a good way to handle statistics.

pretending there's no issue fixes nothing.
we have police operating based on race, a city who used the black populace as a source of funding, and now a tragedy in one church, and apparently an attempt at another in richmond.
but yeah, let's pretend there's no issue. let's listen to pundits saying it's religion, and people running for office who say this was an attack on religion. even tho the guy said what he said...nah, not racist.

So your point is we have no issue with Gun violence in this country cause other countries have it worse? Kind of like your position on the poor in our country should be happy cause the poor in Haiti have it worse off?

Pants II 06-19-2015 06:09 PM

fixing issues

How about a few of the items on

usdebtclock.org

Seems to me gun confiscation and bankrupting a few more american companies just adds to the problem.

It's like some of you are being possessed by the television.

I knew that buildings and the like were named as a way of thumbing southern noses at DC, civil rights and segregation, but I didn't know the flag was resurrected at that time. I figured not never left.

But really, the church attack is just one of many acts by people in the south who still want to keep fighting. Its never come to a complete end here, with post civil war atrocities, the kkk formation, Jim crow, lynchings thru to today. In Alabama, they still have a law on the books banning interracial marriage.

No my point is and always has been we are not the only developed country in the world to experience mass shootings.

I also think not only it serves no purpose but inflames those who want to 'feel' we are the only country by our President pontificating false statements.

Again feelings don't equal facts no matter how many times we tap our heels.

You're incapable of simple math much more knowing what extrapolating means, so I forgive your idiocy.

I don't hate you but at the same time recognize you for the buffoon you portray or even worse are.:)
