I have taken off work every Derby day for the past 5 years...not this year. Zero interest in any of this group. Just a bunch of slow horses.

It's the Derby and you have a pulse. You'll be calling in.

OK....so I MIGHT stop by the OTB on the way home to watch it after work. But I'm not taking the full day off and sitting at the OTB all day, as I have years past. Already gonna be gone 3 days that week for a golf tournament in Maryland. Not gonna waste a vacation day on this years Derby.

That whole pulse thing is questionable at times though...

tiggerv 04-22-2008 02:56 PM

Fair enough although not sold. I don't think he will get the pace nor trip he needs to seriously contend. The Derby pace may not be blistering but it is never slow.

I wouldn't advocate throwing him out based on the pedigree and trainer but he would need a big move forward to hit the board.

ALL the "slow" horses :D :D :D

There's no doubt that this is not a great Derby Field. But the pulse thing is a little over the top. Derby Day is a blast. I don't care if there's 10 donkeys going into the gate, it's going to be exciting. This will be my 20th Derby since I began following horses and there hasn't been a year when "Derby Day" hasn't been a good time.

Even if someone doesn't like the Derby itself, how about the undercard?
If people really feel this way about the Derby than maybe you're in the wrong sport.

If you're referring to what I said, I don't think you understand what I meant.

My point was that Derby day is awesome and if you have a pulse, you'll enjoy it regardless of how crappy the field is.

Same here Kev.. This will be my first year to work as well. Course I will be off in time to watch the race, but I won't be doing the "Breakfast at Churchill" and counting down the hours 'till I heat up that Cheese Queso...

me three, cool coal man before many.

I totally agree...it's like the Masters. Oh course this years Masters is alot like this years Derby....not an exciting field with leaders from unknown parts of the sport.

Anyway, as someone said the undercard usually is great and lots of great races leading up to the Derby and by the time they sing Old Kentucky Home I'll have a pick and be ready for a great race.

No, not you or anyone specifically, I was more or less referring to comments I've heard in general about this being a crappy derby.

Kentucky Derby is never crappy....nor is the "new & improved" F.P. O.T.B.!

I also thought that he made a VERY nice move in the FoY. He's got a win at CD where he beat Recapturetheglory pretty easily, he's 2-for-2 at 9F on dirt and has the pedigree to run all day. His 98 BSF stacks up pretty well with this group and he'll be a pretty big price. Sold yet?

I'm tossing him.

Scat Daddy would be the favorite and could very well win it this year.

No way, dude.
