You take care, jms. I have no idea whar is going on with you right now. I know we had a lot of great convos here. But i guess that time has past. |
|
Whoa. That escalated quickly.
JMS I'm so sorry you were sexually threatened when you were young, and Danzig I'm so sorry you were molested by a relative. Abuse against kids is one of the things that makes me wish I believed in hell. Allowing transgender men and women into the bathroom that most closely correlates with how they identify isn't going to lead to an increase in violence against children. Men (because let's be honest, most sexual predators are men) aren't going to pose as transgender to get into a bathroom to assault a child or woman; if they see a woman or child enter a bathroom alone they'll seize the opportunity because she's alone, and the fact that there's a drawing of a woman on the door isn't going to stop them. I mean, what, a man is going to walk into a woman's rest room with five or six women in there, start to assault a woman and the other women in there are just going to stand around and say, "Oh, well, this person said they were transgender so it's okay"? Come on. Truth is, transgender men and women are far more likely to be the victims of violence that the perpetrators. I have an acquaintance who is female-to-male transgender, and believe me, if he walked into a women's rest room the women would scream and shout at him to get out. Because he looks male. He has a full beard, for chrissakes. And people are going to say he should be using the women's room because of anatomy that no one is going to see because he's going to use a stall? Come on. The fear-mongering that is going on about this, as this article points out, is woefully short of any images of actual transgender people. http://www.attn.com/stories/4080/tra...bathroom-panic Ultimately, unisex restrooms would probably be best, since there's no evidence that gendered restrooms protect women any better than unisex ones do (again, a sexual predator is not going to be deterred by a sign on the door if a woman is in there alone), but I think Bible thumpers would freak out about that, too. |
I think it's very sexist to make women use a separate bathroom. We treat them like second class citizens. If women only knew that the Men's bathroom had 3 ply toilet paper while they had to wrestle with 2 ply, there would be outrage. Maybe there should just be one bathroom that said "Humans" on the door. That would make everyone happy. Oh wait, except those that self identify as aliens.

Bruce Springsteen pulls out of North Carolina concert
http://www.theguardian.com/music/201...rimination-law "In any case, by the time Bruce finally consents to play in North Carolina, Born to Run will surely have undergone one hell of a re-write: We gotta get out while we’re young ‘Cause tramps like us, baby we were born respectively as a cis gender male assigned male at birth and a cis female assigned female at birth although obviously that entire binary concept supports outmoded privilege structures that do not recognise the legitimacy of sexuality’s fluid reality which should allow people to wander into any toilet they please based on how they identify at that precise moment in time. Because, you know, there are more Senators that have been caught doing illegal things in bathrooms than transgender people. The arrest record for transgender folk assaulting women and/or kids in bathrooms currently stands at, I believe, zero.
Let's take a look at an actual sexual predator, shall we? ![]() |
come now, GR, poor folks with wide stances and such.......
:D good for bruce springsteen. meanwhile, brian adams cancelled a miss. show. we went to st Louis over the wknd, for the hockey game vs the blues. we took the long way there and back, to avoid travel thru Mississippi. (recent law passage, and then there's that confederate heritage month bs from the same gov). they won't get any money from us, neither will n.c. as long as they keep that bs....so, no hurricans games next season if nc doesn't get their stuff together. |

this book will be out may 17. stumbled across it while reading about something else. · Thanks to 40 years of policy changes and bad decisions, only about 15 % of all the money in our market system actually ends up in the real economy – the rest stays within the closed loop of finance itself. · The financial sector takes a quarter of all corporate profits in this country while creating only 4 % of American jobs. · The tax code continues to favor debt over equity, making it easier for companies to hoard cash overseas rather than reinvest it on our shores. · Our biggest and most profitable corporations are investing more money in stock buybacks than in research and innovation. · And, still, the majority of the financial regulations promised after the 2008 meltdown have yet come to pass, thanks to cozy relationship between our lawmakers and the country’s wealthiest financiers. |

I do know a young man who was convinced that his equipment was wrong. He convinced his parents, who were well to do, and they paid for his change. Fast forward six years: he is dating a woman and wants to change back. Best of luck to him. Actually, I "spouted off" no assumptions. Re-read my post if you doubt me. I was a fan of Springsteen in the old days. Born to Run (the album) was the height of his work, imo. Now . . . he's just a political belief system, and you're either with him or agin him. And he's taking his guitar his working class schtick and going home. I don't care. I didn't have tickets, and wouldn't go to see him now under any circumstances. And I'm sure that's fine by him. |

WTF??!!
BERLIN — The German government on Friday granted a Turkish request to allow the possible prosecution of a German TV comedian who wrote a crude poem about Turkey’s president, an awkward decision for Chancellor Angela Merkel as she seeks Ankara’s help in reducing Europe’s migrant influx. Turkey demanded last week to have comedian Jan Boehmermann prosecuted for insulting a foreign head of state. German law required Merkel’s government to grant permission before prosecutors could consider whether to press charges. Merkel stressed that it “means neither a prejudgment of the person affected nor a decision about the limits of freedom of art, the press and opinion.” Merkel is now sending one of her own citizens to face prosecution in a foreign country for telling a joke??!! https://www.washingtonpost.com/enter...4dc_story.html |

I guess high level government officials instructing banks to dump toxic assets on a company, providing a loan to the company (along with others) and when said company turns it around changing terms from paying the loan from profits to give me all your profits while some of these government officials go to work for banks that dumped the toxic assets is not as important as keeping up with the Kardashians or which restroom someone can or cannot use.:zz:

also....there are charities who hire call centers. so, beware if you have a supposed charitable organization call you. if it's a call center, they get half the donation, and the charity the other half. so, if the state police (for example) calls you regarding donating to the benevolent fund-it's a telemarketer. |
