Go For Gin was 2nd in that Wood that year ... He took the KY Derby next out. First Derby I ever attended. |

And my biggest Derby score. It was yet another against the bias trip in a row for Go for Gin who chased Holy Bull on a big inside speedway in the Florida Derby and then same deal versus Irgun in that Wood. |
Obviously Irgun, but I didn't remember him in the Gotham.

Last one ....
One of the best NY Bred 2yo Turfers ever .... Name him ... ![]() |
Wow ... I forgot to block his name ... I'm sharp as a tack.

Him I would have gotten anyway.
He was a freak. |

Too easy, even without the free pass.
That horse is pretty much synonymous with 'great turf nybreds'. |

Incurable Optimist could have been scary good. I think he blew a suspensory.

Here's another one:
What stakes-winning horse named after a famous movie character did Incurable Optimist sire? |
Optimer?

Anyone name this disappeared closely related horse to Indian Charlie?

He was actually a literary character....unless you only know Laurence Olivier from the Polaroid commercials.

So if, for some reason, I had to pick one or the other, I would call Corleone a movie character. Huck Finn, on the other hand, I would call a literary character, despite the fact that there have been several movies made featuring the character. |

He came within a nose of taking the triple crown ... beating Victory Gallop in the Derby and Preakness before losing the Belmont to him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIRP4UbrCg8 He's also the sire of two time Breeders Cup Sprint champion Midnight Lute. |
Believe it or not ... this turf hater became a good horse ...

Yep .... his next start was in a maiden claiming race. He eventually almost won the triple crown. |

Check out the horse who beat Grindstone in his 3rd start.
That was Tiznow's full brother Budroyale. He was a gelding that was all over the friggen map with his form. Jay Robbins also trained him at first ... but he debuted him in like a Maiden Claiming race - I think for a 32K tag. And he got claimed from Robbins in his debut. The horse went from claimer to promising 3-year-old Derby contender - to claimer - to stakes horse - to claimer again - to VERY good stakes horse running 2nd in the Breeders Cup Classic. |

Getting down to the nitty gritty - but here's a lifetime form of a good horse. Lasix moved him way up - or at least brought him back to life ... but he only ran on it once ... ![]() Name him. |

It is 100% Dakota Dunes. |

Final two races were with Nick Zito. The 'r' for the bar show I thought would give it away ... but Mike Smith's biggest fan would have got that one even if I blocked that. |
