OK....so I MIGHT stop by the OTB on the way home to watch it after work. But I'm not taking the full day off and sitting at the OTB all day, as I have years past. Already gonna be gone 3 days that week for a golf tournament in Maryland. Not gonna waste a vacation day on this years Derby. That whole pulse thing is questionable at times though... |
Fair enough although not sold. I don't think he will get the pace nor trip he needs to seriously contend. The Derby pace may not be blistering but it is never slow.
I wouldn't advocate throwing him out based on the pedigree and trainer but he would need a big move forward to hit the board. |

There's no doubt that this is not a great Derby Field. But the pulse thing is a little over the top. Derby Day is a blast. I don't care if there's 10 donkeys going into the gate, it's going to be exciting. This will be my 20th Derby since I began following horses and there hasn't been a year when "Derby Day" hasn't been a good time.
Even if someone doesn't like the Derby itself, how about the undercard? If people really feel this way about the Derby than maybe you're in the wrong sport. |

My point was that Derby day is awesome and if you have a pulse, you'll enjoy it regardless of how crappy the field is. |

I totally agree...it's like the Masters. Oh course this years Masters is alot like this years Derby....not an exciting field with leaders from unknown parts of the sport.
Anyway, as someone said the undercard usually is great and lots of great races leading up to the Derby and by the time they sing Old Kentucky Home I'll have a pick and be ready for a great race. Spyder Quote:

Why wouldn't Scat Daddy be the favorite in this group?

Big Brown.

You're kidding, right? And Scat Daddy finished 18th last year, by the way. . . Were there really 17 horses last year better than the top of this crop?

It's pretty bad I was down to my last $10, but I just got back from giving all my money to Vegas the day before. |

Eight Belles has not shot to win. Proud Spell would have a slight shot.

Just for fun here is the order of finish from the 07 Derby, and how I match Scat Daddy up with them.
Street Sense > Scat Daddy Hard Spun > Scat Daddy Curlin > Scat Daddy Imawildandcrazyguy < Scat Daddy Sedgefield < Scat Daddy Circular Quay = Scat Daddy Tiago ???? Scat Daddy last year, Tiago looks good now so tossup. Any Given Saturday > Scat Daddy Sam P. < Scat Daddy Nobiz Like Shobiz = Scat Daddy Dominican < Scat Daddy Zanjero < Scat Daddy Great Hunter = Scat Daddy Liquidity < Scat Daddy Bwana Bull < Scat Daddy Storm in May < Scat Daddy Teuflesberg < Scat Daddy Scat Daddy Stormello < Scat Daddy Cowtown Cat < Scat Daddy |

Anyone know Scat Daddy's best career Beyer? I wanna say it was a 96. . .
|
Scat Daddy gave me a pretty big score (atleast for me) in last years Fountain of Youth which is probably a reason why I liked him so much.
I did not bet him against last years field, but I would def. bet him if he was up against this years crop. |
Wasn't he like 3-1?
