I get up early on Sunday morning and sit on the couch in front of the TV. It's usually close to post time on the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic by the time I do this.

One day I'll actually make it there though.

I did eventually get new friends) I just stayed home by myself so I could watch and hear everything and not have to strangle someone. But NOW, I really have a good deal going. I have these great friends, Tonya and her husband Chris, who are huge sports fans. They are always glued to the TV watching whatever sport is on. Gradually, over the years, I have gotten them interested in racing. Now they are all into it, watching all the preps, tivo-ing races for me, etc. So for the past few years, and this year included, we have a standing date on the first Sat. in May. We all take off work that weekend and get together at their house. We wear stupid hats, drink Mint Juleps(among many other beverages), bring a bunch of food and Chris grills out half the day. Last year he grilled whole teriyaki chickens and got cheese and veggie trays from the local deli. Basically, we just drink and eat our heads off all weekend. And no one talks during the race!! It is an AWESOME, laidback time!

Yeah, normally I'd never throw a party for those reasons. This year though I care so little about the actual race that I figure it is as good a time as any to throw one.

I just watched "The First Saturday in May" trailer and a guy had a good line that made me think of this topic.

He said people ask him why he goes to the Derby instead of watching it at home on tv and he said something along the lines of "It's like watching a porn on tv or having sex".

Go to the infield with several friends, drink a dozen mint juleps, then spend several hours arguing about random things such as "Jessica Alba or Charlize Theron", or the classic question of whether Mike Tyson could beat a Kangaroo.

Been to one Derby (2005) and can't wait to go back.

This year we'll once again be taking in the Derby from Mohegan Sun in CT.

Called Arlington today and they only have general outdoor admission and general admission for the simulcast area. For anyone who has been to the Arlington Park simulcast area, what is it like?

One more time Irish..what is your preference? A seat in one spot all day or...??
AP is huge inside and there are TVs everywhere so it's easy to create your own simulcast area if you don't mind standing or moving around a little.
