I hate the Yankees and sticking up for them makes me sick. But I cannot believe the press this has gotten. This happens all of the time.

But, for arguements sake let's say he really did get hit. The umpire missed it and thought it was a foul ball. The catcher saw that he really did get hit, yet said nothing. Would everyone be calling him a scumbag?

Totally agree with Jms that this is more about hating the Yankees and Jeter than anything else. When a no name from the Royals does the exact same thing, no one notices or cares.

The reason he known to be as the greatest living player of all time is that he's a Yankee.

But is a sissy cheater.

Really smart.

Wait until Mr. Umpire sees him again.

I may have exceeded the speed limit on occasion and might have pulled the tag off of a mattress but that doesn't make me a criminal does it?

The Machiavellian speaks.

Yea, but this is about 20x more common for the Yanks to do this than for anyone else. Reggie Jackson stuck his ass out to stop a throw in the world series. Their a scum organization. Period.

he also hit three home runs on three straight pitches off of three different pitchers all which made tommy lasorda barf up 3 plates of sausage and pepper

LOL..You think acting like you got hit in the hand is a manly thing to do? See, this is why we had steroids/HGH in this sport. It's not a moral thing to have to tell the whole country you had your hand treated by a trainer because of "vibration." It's immoral. Everything about this organization is about winning the wrong way. That's what they represent, and Jeter is the best example.

Fact is the organization is a no-class organization. All money, and zero class.

Wonder what some of the old timers, like Gibson, Drysdale, etc., would offer in the way of a remedy for this.

If they played now they wouldn't do much more than what is done now unless they wanted to spend half the season suspended.

You bought him. You buy almost every damn accomplishment you ever get. Over 30 years later, and you're still paying whores.

Danzig 09-16-2010 07:33 PM

just got home, hubby had taped the play from earlier so he could ask me what i thought. my first reaction was jeter is a cheater..then i said that other sports should have a rule similar to hockeys 'dive' rule. we've all seen punters and kickers act as tho a defender wiped them out in an attempt to draw a flag-and sometimes it works. and now this...
he should get a suspension for his theatrics.

I rarely bother to defend the yankees but I think that 30+ years between violations of your personal conduct code isn't exactly a pattern.

Where is the picture of ARod with the purse? That should really be part of this thread as well.

It is cheating. It's not idiotic to consider that cheating. He acts like the ball hit his hand. After the game he says it hit the bat. That is 100% cheating.

It is not cheating. He doesn't make the call, the ump does. So catchers trying to frame pitches are cheating too? Aren't they trying to deceive the ump? When a guy misses the bag on a double play and the ump doesnt see it is that cheating too? When a guy checks his swing but does in fact go around but the ump makes a bad call and says he held up, is that cheating if he doesnt admit to swinging? If a guy traps a ball but the ump misses the call and says it was a catch, is he cheating?

blackthroatedwind 09-16-2010 08:00 PM

The umps blew the call. Period. I can't stand the Yankees but honestly never cared what Jeter did.

The most pathetic thing was how loudly you could hear the ball hit the bat. Yet the ump still blew it.

This is different. There is a guy acting like he is in deep pain, and after the game he admits the ball only hit the bat. You wonder why WALLSTREET stole from America? Duh. We need to stop encouraging kids to be deceitful. What happened last night was a guy got ahead by using deceit. You can't be surprised that our society can't fix that. Not when we're encouraging Jeter's little exhibit last night.

Yea, and if he got away with trying deceit in that situation, then, won't kids think they can get away with it in a ton of situations? It's a horrible message to send. What's the difference between that, and destroying an opposing team's star player? I think what he did is poor sportsmanship. Now, the only fix is another act of poor sportsmanship (drilling him in the head.) It's better to just look down upon this act of cheating. If the ball hits the bat that loudly, then don't act like it hit your hand. If you do, then you'll be looked down upon. Period. That's what should happen. I can't see how it's a good thing to have guys (on video) admitting they lied a couple hours ago. Not good. Then, a day later the other team's pitcher has to throw at his head. Not good.

It isn't different. He broke no rule. Baseball isn't self regulated like golf. If the umpires miss a call then you are under no obligation to bail them out. As for the social implication, I thought no one under 40 watched baseball anymore? And the rest of the world watches Soccer which is not only mind numbingly dull but where faking is an art form.
