As indicated beforehand, there wasn't any expectation for Redboard King to be particularly competitive Monday in his first start. Will get a morning report, but Redboard had a variety of experiences Monday in this debut that should help him as he moves towards the kind of races he appears meant for: turf routes.
He was very nervous in the paddock but ultimately got focused once Carmouche got on. He loaded well and broke nicely and raced in amongst horses while moving up and through a couple of foes in the opening quarter. He took a lot of dirt though and began to retreat after three-eighths. He did come back coughing pretty heavily according to TC, so we'll see what's up this morning. Would have been nice to finish further up the chart, but from an experience and fitness standpoint, it was fine. You have to start them somewhere. He'll get into a training routine in a couple of days and begin to shop for a second start.
