I think Penn St is able to win because they are often a second level Big 10 team and are playing second level SEC teams and even though it seems that this year the SEC has been the far better conference, usually the two are pretty evenly matched once you get past the top teams. Eight times out of 10 though, the top two from the SEC will beat the top two from the Big 10. Penn St and some other B-10 schools can compete with some SEC schools. But in any given year, if Penn St ends up as the best B-10 school, they'd likely suffer the same fate as OSU does when they play the best SEC school.

I do believe that. LSU got some cheap calls and turned the game. Ohio State wasnt outplayed.

You said the same shiat last year when Florida beat them. The fact that LSU was just the better team hasn't crossed your mind? Funny enough, LSU played a lot cleaner of a game than Ohio State did. I thought the calls were fair.

c'mon now gator. we all know the truth, bid was kind enough to point it out. lsu played horribly, osu was outstanding, the refs were the difference.

i glanced over that one, funny tho....no mention about the rotten or blown calls, the bad officiating, or how osu played well, and lsu got lucky.

hmmm.

I don't know what you consider 2nd level...usually when PSU is matched in a bowl with the SEC they are usually the 3rd or 4th best big 10 team...even the 2nd best at times...and they're playing a Jan 1st game usually the Outback or Capital One or whatever those games are called. Why would the 3rd or 4th best big 10 be able to beat the 3rd or 4th best SEC team but not be able to compete when it is 1 versus 1?? (as in the last two years you had wins by PSU, Wisconsin laast year and Michigan this year against the SEC)?? That doesn't make much sense to me. When PSU was the best in the big 10 which hasn't happened often recently...1994 and 2005 they weren't matched against the SEC. (played Oregon in 1994 before BCS and then Florida State in 2005.)

(or perhaps it could be as simple as ddthetide said as a lot of PSUs SEC bowl wins are against Fullmer!!)

Bama won it last in 92 with the #1 defense in the country, 13-0. defense finished #1 in all 4 statistical categories. oklahoma was the last team to do that. 8pt underdogs to miami and hiesman trophy winner gino toretta.

that 92 team probably wouldn't get a shot the way it's set up today. they started the season OUT of the opening polls. weren't moved to #2 until after the first SEC Championship game.

osu's drinks have been ALOT longer and fewer between than any of Alabama's.:D

The Ohio State University take first seat at the bar when the party starts. We give ourselves an opportunity to drink the drink. No team in the nation is as consistant or well respected.

you must be smoking the same stuff the nd fans are. osu is on a great run in part because the big10 SUCKS! it's a 3 team conference.
until the vest arrived, osu hadn't a sniff of the national championship game back to woody and the late 60's early 70's.

They were the number 1 ranked team in 1979 or 1980 under Earle Bruce in Schlichter's sophomore year and lost by one point in the Rose Bowl to USC with Charles White I think. They were undefeated and ranked number one headed into that game.

horseofcourse 01-10-2008 11:28 AM

that was 1979...they lost the 1980 Rose Bowl 17-16. They also had sniffs under JOhn Cooper, but he would always lose to Michigan. I think the 1996 season they lost one game and beat an undefeated Arizona state team in the rose bowl I think?? But they certainly sniffed a championship that year as well.

ok i'll give you sniff but they've seldom been in postion come Bowl time to PLAY for the championship.
i stand by, the big10 is a 3 team conference. osu, mich, psu. before psu joined it was a 2 team.
