If he'd been training w/bar shoes for 10 months like what Pletcher said, this isn't news. It would be a completely different story if he just started wearing them. Yet another non-story by the media.

In such a contentious race, though, it seems like more of a minus than a plus. . .

Leroidesanimaux started wearing bar shoes immediately prior to the Mile in 2005, though that was a turf race and he ran pretty well anyway.

I am guessing that he has feet problems all the time so they are just using them as a precaution.

I can't decide what horse scares me the most this year. That is the one I am betting on. :)

sometimes with a turf horse their big round feet lead also tend to be flat and lead to crushed/underrun heels....in those cases the bar shoes help to evenly distribute force to the whole foot

If his feet are sore...will he really like how the Churchill surface is now or even when it's drying out tomorrow???

Thought I heard Steve say on ATRAB that the chance of rain was up graded to only 20% tomorrow...
but it was still raining in the finale today though.

Or the horse already has a quarter crack and they put them on to hlep support the hoof or the horse has navicular disease or some other hoof ailment . If you look at the horses foot in the paddock and see some stuff on it that looks like bondo that means he has popped a crack and it has been patched .

Bar shoes make an instant toss in a race like this.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 05-04-2007 11:11 PM

point given had bar shoe

sumitas 05-05-2007 12:46 AM

tx, can't go with Scat Daddy in this race when he's got foot problems.

ALostTexan 05-05-2007 12:49 AM

I still think people are making way too big of a deal over this. I hope his odds got through the roof with all of the commotion over the shoes, because he will still have (some of) my money tomorrow...
