Pegasus and Dragon is a 100-foot (30 m) tall statue of Pegasus defeating a dragon in Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida.
It is the 2nd tallest statue in the United States after the Statue of Liberty. They are also the world's tallest equine and european dragon statues.
The dragon stands 50 feet high.
The statue complex is 200 feet in length and 115 feet in width.
Pegasus is made of 330 tons of steel and 132 tons of bronze.
The dragon is made of 110 tons of steel and 132 tons of bronze.
Pegasus will feature a 5D dome theater in a rock formation underneath it.
The dragon is surrounded by musical fountains.
At night the statue will be home to a fountain show featuring 13 musical pieces, 350 fog nozzles, 116 water nozzles, special LED lighting and dragon breathing fire 20 feet during the show.
.

The statue was announced in 2012 as part of a long-term expansion of Gulfstream Park that also included condominiums and more grandstands for the horse racing track.
In 2013 further details emerged showing that Pegasus was to be in the pose of stomping on a dragon. Construction on the site started in April 5, 2013 with Skanska overseeing construction.
The statue was pre-cast and shipped in from China in 23 packing containers and the steel beams were shipped in 23 shipping containers from Germany after being made by Strassacker. The project cost $30 million. By December 6, 2014 construction of the statues was completed with work on the surrounding landscaping and water features remaining to be done in the summer of 2015. Work on lighting for the fountain show and dragon's fire breath was beginning in late 2015. The complex is expected to be opened in spring 2016.

lets type about money

all currency is in american dollars

WIN $7.00 million

PLACE $1.75 million

SHOW $1.00 million

4th a meager $250,000
5th a pitance $250,000

6 -12 $200,000

===============

In addition, slot holders will
receive 1/12th of the net revenue the race generates in
wagering, media rights, and sponsorships.

Although NBC will televise the Pegasus, channel 5.1 at 3:30 following figure skating 130 -330
The Stronach Group is paying for that air time, so no money will flow to the slot
holders from TV.

Slot holders also retain first preference for entering the 2018 edition of the Pegasus.

Default Pegasus Undercard - Poseidon

Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) winner Hoppertunity
leads a group of graded stakes winners among
111 horses nominated to the five supporting stakes
races, three of them graded, on the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) program
Jan. 28 at Gulfstream Park.

A total of $1,025,000 in purses will be
available in the stakes leading up to the first
running of the Pegasus, with its world-record
purse of $12 million.

The Bob Baffert-trained Hoppertunity leads
30 horses by earnings nominated for the
inaugural running of the $400,000 Poseidon
Stakes at nine furlongs on dirt.
Hoppertunity prevailed in the Jockey Club Gold Cup by a halflength
over Effinex to pick up his second grade 1 victory.
He earned $2.3 million in 2016 to push
his career total to $3.9 million.
Baffert, who is preparing Arrogate for the
Pegasus, also nominated grade 1 winner Mor Spirit for the Poseidon.
Stanford, winner of the Dec. 17 Harlan's Holiday
Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream, was one of nine horses
nominated by leading trainer Todd Pletcher for the
Poseidon. Cherry Wine, second in the Preakness
Stakes (G1) and a winner of his only start at
Gulfstream, is also nominated.

Again, I find myself being one of the nay-sayers when I see numbers like those from this posted. These purely business points that suggest that the Pegasus World Cup will not be a long term fixture.

[1] There appears to be absolutely no interest in broadcasting this race as it has very limited national appeal despite the Chrome vs. Arrogate rematch. We are one week out from the race and I have not seen anything on NBC or any other national network discussing the race. TVG has provided some coverage.

[2] According to what I read this morning, gate admission to Gulfstream is $100.00 per person on Pegasus day not to mention parking passes $50.00) and all of the other up-charges. What is the expected attendance for that type of gate charge? Will Gulfstream attract over or under 12,000 people for that kind of money? Personally, I would go under.

[3] If your entry finishes third or worse, completely possible given the field structure, how quickly are you ready to fire another speculative million at the pot for next year? (Maybe there are outfits lined up to kick in their $1,000,000? Who are they?)

[4] Wait until the post position draw this week. Put both Arrogate and Chrome in the ten, eleven, or twelve posts and your marquee match-up suddenly is upended. Worse, put only one of them in the outside slots.

Baffert proclaims Arrogate ready for Pegasus World Cup
By Steve Andersen

ARCADIA, Calif.- For three consecutive weekends this month, Arrogate has worked prior to the first race at Santa Anita. With each workout, trainer Bob Baffert has expressed confidence Arrogate is on schedule for the $12 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28.

After Arrogate worked six furlongs in 1:12.13 at Santa Anita late Saturday morning, Baffert said the world-class 4-year-old colt is prepared for the world’s richest race. Recent wet weather in Southern California that has forced changes in Arrogate’s daily training schedule will not be an excuse.

“He’s ready for a challenge,” Baffert said. “He is so fit.”

The Pegasus World Cup is run at 1 1/8 miles. The race will be a rematch between Arrogate and California Chrome, the first two finishers in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 5.

Saturday, Arrogate worked on a sealed and sloppy track a day after Santa Anita sustained more than two inches of rain in the latest in a series of storms that have pummeled the region in recent weeks.

“I’ve been on pins and needles with this weather pattern,” Baffert said. “The track was in great shape for as wet as it was.”

Arrogate worked in company with his regular workout companion, the maiden Uninvited. Arrogate started eight lengths behind Uninvited, a margin quickly reduced to four lengths on the backstretch.

Arrogate ran the opening quarter-mile in 24.82 seconds and remained about four lengths behind Uninvited on the backstretch and around the turn, through a half-mile in 48.87. Arrogate was within two lengths of Uninvited a furlong before the wire and was in front of his stablemate at the wire, through six furlongs in 1:12.13.

“I didn’t want to go along too fast,” Baffert said. “We know he can close on a horse. He has the gears.”

Arrogate, who was ridden in the workout by jockey Martin Garcia, galloped out strongly, well in front of Uninvited, going seven furlongs in 1:24.33 and a mile in 1:38.82.

Earlier this month, Arrogate worked six furlongs in 1:11.80 on Jan. 8 and six furlongs in 1:12.20 on Jan. 15.

“He’s getting stronger every week,” Baffert said. “He’s maturing and getting better.”

Owned by Juddmonte Farms, the 4-year-old Arrogate has won 5 of 6 starts. He is unbeaten in two stakes, having won the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga last August.

Mike Smith has the mount on Arrogate in the Pegasus World Cup.

I'm not surprised, unfortunately.

Having been to GP for 2 FL Derbies (Quality Road's '09 and Orb's '13) I'd have to say that if you are expecting the on track experience to be anything more than abject clusterfu**, you are going to be disappointed.

Same thing goes for Santa Anita opening day. Great track, great location. There are way too many events going on that day.

Default Trump buys in

This just in

The Don...has just paid 3 million for a start in the Pegasus 9 furlong race assured his new Russian colt is the winner

Mr President, - a colt by AP Putin - from a DJ Trump mare; is trained by the Federations Dmitry Medvedev..to be riddin by Jose Tall-fence climber

the colt was seen on boarding an intercontinental flight flown by Tex Sutton, in a special plane made by Boeing which was gotten on sale cheap after the air force one program was scraped by Trump earlier in the month.

Mr President, the AP Putin undefeated colt has raced on 3 continents and Trump has promised his victory , no matter what it costs..Komrad.

if memory serves me, it was the last furlong, the 10th , in which the grey got to Chrome. and as baffert says, the grey one is a big lanky colt well horse now, that needs all 10 to get all played out in full stretch.

which leads me to another ramble, a quarter year has past, a new season, both are older... 6 to 4...

will the final 220 yards shorter mean that Chrome is gonna win the big money to sum an enormous bank role

my monies on Mr President the AP Putin colt

The ***** hat is obviously restricting oxygen to his pea brain.

At least we'll have concern for the working man and "edgy" comedy again after the cowards were silent for 8 years.

Now all of a sudden they care about people outside of Panem.

The decision by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to lift a quarantine of the Fair Grounds backstretch on Jan. 21 puts Fair Grounds-based Gun Runner one step closer to racing in the $12 million Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 28 at Gulfstream.

The state-administered quarantine due to an outbreak of equine herpesvirus will be lifted Saturday for 42 barns in which there have been no reported incidences of the virus provided no further cases are reported in the next two days. Gun Runner is stabled in a barn in which there have been no EHV-1 cases.

David Fiske, the racing manager for co-owner Ron Winchell, said Wednesday afternoon that should the quarantine been lifted the Pegasus would be "very much in play" for Gun Runner, who has been trained to make the race, should the chance arise, and is scheduled to work again this weekend. Twelve horse already are listed as starters in the race, a full field, but Gun Runner's owners could have a deal to swap their horse for one of the announced starters if it becomes possible.

But there would be several hurdles still to clear. A Fair Grounds movement restriction barring horses coming into and going out of the track remained in place late Wednesday afternoon. Even if that restriction - at least for horses leaving the track - is lifted, Gun Runner would have to be cleared to ship into Florida in general and Gulfstream in particular, both of which might be unwilling to accept any horses from Fair Grounds so close to the EHV-1 event. There have, however, been no cases of the far more serious neuropathogenic strain of the EHV-1 virus reported since Dec. 31, and the horse that tested positive that day has recovered and returned a negative test Tuesday.
Looks like Gun runner will not be inthe race per Drf
