Subtle Humor

Per David Grening -
New York Racing Association officials confirmed that both SUBTLE HUMOR and CON SNEAKY had to be euthanized as a result of incidents in back-to-back races at Aqueduct.

In the third, Subtle Humor, a 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Da Stoops trained and owned by David Jacobson, was pulled up about a sixteenth of a mile into the race by jockey Cornelio Velasquez. Though she was vanned off, Subtle Humor was diagnosed with a sesamoid fracture and was euthanized.

Con Sneaky

In the fourth, CON SNEAKY, a 3-year-old New York-bred daughter of Congaree owned by David Cummings and others and trained by Richard Metvier, suffered a hind tibia fracture during the stretch run of the six-furlong race and had to be euthanized.

These are the first two racing-related fatalities of the main track meet. There were 15 during the inner track meet.

Balder Success

His Groom Steve Ayres:
"I went to work on Sunday morning and we hadn’t heard anything and I went home – I live only 100 yards from Balder’s stable – but then an hour later the boss knocked at my door and I knew straight away and just fell to my knees."

Lord Nelson (probably not the one you're thinking of).

World-renowned equine personality, professor and former mounted patrol horse, Lord Nelson, passed away on April 12 at Gales Way Farm in Wrightstown, New Jersey. Lord Nelson, who will be remembered as Rutgers University’s only equine professor emeritus, lived a distinguished life, full of adventure, up until the ripe age of 42 (the human equivalent of 126 years).

Lord Nelson will also be remembered as the first, and only, horse to ever receive an official football penalty in a NCAA football game.

Yee Cheong Star, the former Cannizaro House, after breaking a shoulder just past the wire at Sha Tin yesterday. He had gone off as the even money favorite.

This was his second and most recent win in HK (after having a year off cause of issues... very nice, comfortable win)...

RIP, pretty boy.

Easter Bunnette

Mill Ridge Farm regretfully announces the death of Easter Bunnette, dam of 2011 Horse of the Year Havre De Grace. The 17-year-old mare hemorrhaged and died Sunday, April 18, after foaling her colt by Bernardini.
