Default 'Horseplayers' on ESQ TV -- Debuts 1/21, 10p ET

Starts filming at Belmont handicapping tournament this weekend, following horseplayers seeking to win the pot at the end of the year tourney in Vegas.

* Andy , note the misspelling of "Horseplayes" in header on it !

DirecTv doesn't have Esquire; I complained about it. Seems like they dropped G4, Esquire's predecessor, and haven't picked up Esquire.

G4 will be rebranded as Esquire and available in September. Dish will carry it. They already carry HRTV & TVG as well as they have HRN available. You can receive all 3 for about $80/month. I'm not sure which package Esquire will fall into.

Well Esquire Channel is now up and running, but I cannot find Horseplayers listed anywhere - and - more alarming: if one goes to the EsquireTV website and lists "All Shows" - it does not appear there.

Anybody hear anything, or is it just slated for a later appearance?

Not debuting for a while. It's being taped and will be edited up for broadcast. Culminates with the NHC.

Cool. Definitely looking forward to it. Wasn't sure if it was already taped from last year's tournaments and NHC or whether they are putting it together now.

By the way - if Esquire is supposed to be aimed at men, what's with all the "Sex and the City" replays on there? WTF?

Default Horseplayers - on Esquire

Here is a one minute glimpse into Horseplayers, coming January 21 on Esquire.

http://tv.esquire.com/videos/70885-h...ded-first-look

Those at the Racing Symposium got about 10 minutes of footage to preview, and have to admit - it was quite entertaining. Take the typical "reality show feel" and throw it out. This link is just a one-minute glance.

Looks interesting, will have to see if I have this network on my newer provider AT&T U-Verse which I am finally getting to enjoy HRTV on

Any publicity is good and I am thrilled to see attention given to horse players. But, since I have played in many contests with them, I am quite certain that a few of the people they chose will not give the rest of us a good name.

Hoping for the best.

I'm just hoping someone finally gets to use that footage of Hellmers, his headband and his girlfriend from the 2012 BCBC.

He was wearing a blue Hanson style tail this year. The man is certainly the type you want on a reality show but is hardly representative of the typical contest player.

of course they have to show the eccentric personalities... but this 1 minute blurb won't do much to pull in the casual fan. I think it's a bad 1-minute promo. I mean... unless they're just trying to get a small niche of people? But maybe this is al they have for the show? Watch horse player bet on horse or use horse in handicapping contest, watch them freak out cheering their horse, rinse-repeat.

I mean yeah, the pub in general is good, but I fail to see how this show lasts if this is all they got.

I was there at the GP contest when they were filming and yes they tended to gravitate toward filming the loudest and most eccentric as you say, but I guess they have to?

I don't know. There are some players who have led extraordinary lives and done amazing things. There are hundreds of really good people who would make great stories (including some in the show). But, there are also a few who I would not want to be associated with when the world thinks about what a horse player is.
