PS--I have a smoke detector port that is continuing to chirp even though I've unplugged the smoke detector. If anyone knows what I can do to make it stop, please let me know. I changed the battery in the smoke detector, reset it and it still chirped. Unplugged everything...they are wired into the home electric....now, the plug in port is chirping...how is that possible?

This must be a stand alone detector? Otherwise your alarm provider, like ADT, would have called?

I don't have an alarm company...just smoke detectors wired into the home electric. It's the port that plugs into the smoke detector. I don't understand because I'm not aware that the port has anything in it that allows it to chirp.

I've contacted the maker of the smoke detector and my son-in-law is a Fire chief, so I think we'll probably be able to figure it out, but the chirping is unnerving.

Alli: go to You Tube and type in "Fix or Stop Smoke Detector from Chirping". There are short videos and long ones. There are many on You Tube. All say that it needs to be reset. Better yet put the Name of the Smoke Detector (like "Kidde" or "BKE"?) in your search. That should help you.

Thanks....Youtube is my best friend....I did reset the detector...it's not the detector now. It's the port that plugs in the electricity to the detector. I'm at a loss. Think it may be a defective plug....we'll see.
