I think it was Dave Grening that was talking about Storm the Court and whether he should run in the Los Alamitos. The rationale for not running is to give him rest and get him ready to run in 2020 prep races.

My thought on this is - what’s the difference if you run him in the Los Alamitos and then rest him with a plan to bring him back in the San Felipe on March 7 or rest him now and plan to bring him back in the Robert Lewis on February 1?

I’m not particularly high on the horse but if the goal is to get him to qualify for the Derby, why not run him in the Los Alamitos while he’s running well and hopefully pick up 10 points. At 32 points, he could finish 3rd in the San Felipe off the lay-off and 4th in the SA Derby and he’d have 52 points and most likely qualify. That seems like plenty of wiggle room if we assume he’s able to win the Los Al.
