She's not as good, but Shared Heart's debut reminded me of Curlin's.

They just can't resist putting Soldat back on dirt. I like him and hope the best for him but he moved up so nicely on grass.

He's certainly training well on it at Palm Meadows. With graded stakes earnings already in the bank, no reason not to take a shot. I imagine some of the rivals were surprised to see him turn up in this condition.

If you listen carefully you can actually hear the money being incinerated on Soldat in his impending dirt race failures. Or, maybe he will be the reincarnation of Temperance Hill, and it will pour the day of every big race. Even then I'm highly skeptical.

Agree completely. . . I really like him as a turf horse, but he will never be anything on dry dirt and will almost certainly be a casualty of Derby fever.

Don't slop horses generally love the turf? In 2 dirt starts at 2, he ran 2nd on a fast track to Bail Out Cat (5 1/2 furlongs) and then 2nd by about 5 to Wine Police on a sloppy track. He's going to take a ton of money in the FOY, but that could be a huge race with Boys and THAS among others going. Maybe he won't take all that much $$, now that I think about it, because BAT and THAS will take $$$ -at least BAT will have had a race. I wonder who THAS' new jockey will be............

I was so looking forward to seeing Dialed In, but I think Nick made the right decision to scratch...........

Ya they do. . . that's the point. To believe he's a good dirt horse because of a slop performance is wrong. Almost all the War Fronts (besides The Factor) I've come across have seemed to prefer turf.

The track was not really wet when Soldat finished 2nd to Wine Police, but does a distant 2nd place finish constitute an affinity for the surface? I doubt it and am among those skeptical of his ability on a dry strip.

The thing is that Kieran sure sounded like he was a GO for the KY Derby,no matter what happens. He will have enough Graded Earnings(already at 270,000).

Dry Track=Eats Money and runs bad
Slop=Eats Money and decent chance of Winning

Slop at Gulf doesn't = slop everywhere....Everyone just needs to slow down. It was an impressive race yesterday, let's give him that. You play against him in the FOY and make him do it again. After that we reassess....Team break.

I would not touch him in the FOY unless it is OFF again. I am just saying that it sounds like after yesterday they are gonna run in the Derby no matter what he does from now on. He already has enough money for it .

Playalong thread talked about the performance of WASHINGTON RULES Saturday in his 2nd career start. McPeek Roman Ruler gelding with an 87 Beyer in the GP 5th. Came running under Kent D. to nail the Pletcher firster San Pablo at the wire. There was buzz about the horse and he was ridden with supreme confidence and like he had plenty yet to give.

As I mentioned yesterday, there is a wacky backstory with this horse. Vets said he wouldn't make the races and he was gelded and given away as a pony. McPeek went to the client who had the horse last year and wanted to know what happened to him and was told that they had given him away. McPeek said to get him back and they did. Now you'll see him in the Fountain of Youth. You can't make this stuff up.

I thought San Pablo ran a huge race, and will definitely be one to watch going forward.
