I did not watch the game or see a replay... what was happening? was the wisconsin QB trying to kill the clock so they can kick a FG?

Taking a knee means the clock keeps running... spiking the ball stops the clock.. Did the QB take a knee instead of spike the ball?

they ran a play to get to the middle of the field for a kick. but for some reason, the refs didn't set the ball, and the clock ran out before wisconsin could kick. there were 14 secs on the clock when the play ended.

Well this explains a lot

Wow, just saw it for the first time. Terrible job by refs. Also a bad job by the Wisc. QB, it didn't look like he took a knee to me.

There was a play during the Eagles vs Chargers game when the Eagles had the ball... The official who places the football stood over the ball (the eagles were all lined up around him) and didnt move off the ball until there were only 5 seconds left on the play clock. We got the snap off on time but I couldnt believe he was just standing there for so long.

Didn't see it, but I'm guessing it had to do with substitutions. If the offense makes a change, the defense must have the opportunity to substitute as well.

I do think that was happening.. the chargers were substituting.. but what would have happened if the eagles didnt get the snap off because of slow substitutions on the defense and the official not coming off the ball? are there delay of game penalties on the defense?

Not sure how that works, but I think not. You can't make a change with say 10 secs on the play clock and then expect the defense to counter and be in position within that timeframe. (if that is what happened).

there are defensive delay of game penalties, but this doesn't sound like one. if they were substituting, they can't really fuss if the other team also subs.

The eagles seemed ready at 15 or more seconds, just waiting for the ball to be placed and the official to get out of the way. i dont know, it seemed to me that the defense was milking the clock down, walking or jogging onto the field. I bet it would have been called on the defense if the clock had expired. Or the play clock was not set properly. It was very weird.

watched the replay, the ASU defense did the first smart thing to ever occur by an ASU student by jumping on the ball.

Dumb on the QBs part, and the officials could have done a better job, but ASU was very smart for diving on the ball the QB just placed on the ground.
