as a newbie to the business side of racing... how does the whole process of selecting a jockey work? is it usually settled days in advance or on race day?

also, steve/chuck, not sure if this has been asked, but does Sumwon race with lasix ?

We usually line up a jockey in advance of the day of entry. Sometimes there is a conflict and you wind up changing at the draw.

She does race on Lasix.

Chuck will confirm, but I believe she's working Saturday as the last effort before his string pulls out of NOLA... Then at least 1 at Churchill before the anticipated KEE start.

SD,

I doubt it.. Chuck is rarely allowed into Lexington at all, let alone stable at KEE..

UPDATE: Advised by a consultant close to Chuck that he has 2 ship-in stalls at KEE!

I am planning on Sat work. The weather report looks pretty good so we should be ok. She will probably have 2 works at Churchill before the 11th.

Thanks Chuck and Steve for the update. Look forward to hearing about the workout. Are there any plans for a work on the turf?

A lot of tracks won't allow works on the turf because the courses can't stand the wear and tear of racing and works. I think the exception in Maryland might be a limited number of works for stake runners only. Is that the same policy for Fair Grounds, Chuck? Is Churchill any different?

Thanks for keeping us updated - I'm really looking forward to a race!!!

Tom
