You think that the Shoelaces kid at Michigan or Masoli are NFL qb's as well?

In the NFL - you have to really be able to read and understand defenses to play qb. That takes a lot of work.

You can have an IQ of 50 and zero work ethic - and still be a superstar in the kind of offenses that Shoelaces, Newton, Tebow, and Masoi have thrived in.

It's mainly about reading one or two defenders - and having more athletic ability than your opposing defense.
It seems one or the other is the case. He's either not very smart or he's incredibly lazy (could be both). If you feel the need to cheat in those glorified middle school classes atheletes take in college, your either dumb or lazy.

I know its against a shitty Georgia team, but I got a chance to really watch him today. Looks pretty accurate to me. Thread the needle on a few throws. Not sure about the final stats, 2 lazy to look, but at one point he was 11/14 with 2 drops.
Also, before the game on CBS the coach kept saying he is the starting Qb THIS WEEK. NOT GOOD.

We can revist this thread in about 5 years as long as Stevie doesn't blow the place up....or I don't dart myself for clicking on another Z thread. I'm starting to understand the teenagers that cut themselves, I know it is wrong, but I keep finding myself clicking and reading. Then when I get to the end of the thread, I realize I'll never get that time back and I promise myself to never do it again. I digress.

Nothing Newton did this week or will do next week, will change my mind on his NFL potential.

Newton can play, but Nick Fairley made a couple pretty gnarly cheapshots on Georgia's QB yesterday. If he were in the NFL, he'd be sitting this week, or at least be $75k less wealthy.

Bama still hasn't played to their abilities.

I'm looking forward to the Iron Bowl. It will arguably be the most important game in all of CFB this season.

The run sets up the pass in that high tempo spread. It feels like 4 out of every 5 plays is a freaking run and defense still are lucky if they contain the run .. they'll sell out and the pass should be open.

Put that guy in a pro style offense against an NFL defense and make him beat defenses with his 68 IQ.

Mike Vick is a different breed - and this guy is no Mike Vick. Mike Vick is easily the greatest college QB I've ever seen. He ran a pro style offense at Virgina Tech .. and he didn't run the ball with smoke and mirrors out of high tempo option spread. Florida State had a great defense - and he made them look like monkeys on broken plays - and well defended drop back passes.

I think Newton could be an outstanding NFL player - just not as a QB. You have to have smarts and true dedication to be an NFL QB... or be named Mike Vick .. and he ain't no Mike Vick.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not saying this guy is the next anything. I only think he will have a shot at playing qb because of his size and athleticism.

I haven't seen enough of him to know one way or the other. The niffle certainly hasn't bee kind to spread qbs.

Bama will beat them in the iron bowl

This is our BCS Championship.

If we lose I'm not shaving until we beat them again.

I think Auburn will beat Oregon, if it gets there.

Agree. Feel bad for you. And Boise probably is going to get hung out to dry from the NC... and they are better than Auburn at this point.
