Default NFL: Eliminating kickoffs gaining traction?

https://slate.com/culture/2018/12/nf...d-15-play.html

Johnny D has been telling me for ages that kickoffs need to go. This "4th and 15" concept has merit.

I think what is presented is a horrible idea. Football as we know it will be replaced by Arena Like scores.. If we want to get rid of it simply give the team possession at its own 25 yard line but allow scoring team to choose to attempt and onside kick if they desire and be done with it.

I tend to agree with Jim. I don't like the idea that the scoring team gets offensive ball possession ball back after a score. This puts a probable winded/tired defense back on the field. If the problem is timing for the kick-offs, make that an option to choose to kick or not kick...less penalties, injuries, and relentless beer and truck commercials. Maybe push the receiving teams back another 5 yards for onside kicks to add more excitement and increase % of success.

I'll probably get roasted for this...

Put a good passing team up against a poor pass defense under this scenario you will see scores like 28-0 before the team with poor pass defense even gets the ball. Will make some games brutal to watch. On top of that all records and statistics in the history of the NFL are moot as teams and players will get many more opportunities than those that preceded them. It is a completely different game from even what currently exists .

If The commissioner Roger thinks it’s a good idea, it probably isn’t. He’s done more to destroy the game than anyone.. ray rice punishment for brutally beating his wife vs Tom Brady bullcrap suspension shows his incompetence. Penalty flag throwing overzealous officials are running rampant throughout the league. No longer must see tv to say the least. And they should make balls that don’t go so far when you kick them...

they have been thinking that for years. Don't think it will happen.

If you wait until the spring you will see a NEW football league without kickoffs.
