I usually don't get into these types of debates but I agree with you...basically from speed figures alone, RD would have smoked the bird

I was a big Alazo fan. And i loved that Mott horse you picked in the Travers a few years back. Neither panned out.

With all due respect, you do know she buried Royal Delta in the Beldame, right?

Ok a few things. 1st I'm talking full body of work. Because if it was based on fastest race its easily RD. I would assume you prefer RD, but also sharp enough to argue both sides. In that Beldame, HDG was 2-5, RD was a 3yr old facing olders. It all matters IMO.

If they all ran their best races, Royal Delta would be first, Havre de Grace second, and Songbird third. However, if you went by age, Songbird was clearly the best 2YO ( I don't think Havre de Grace ran until she was 3 ), Royal Delta passed Songbird in the latter part of their 3YO seasons, but Songbird had the best overall 3YO season of any of them. As they got older, the other two passed her, but it's a tricky question.

Going overboard to show that Songbird wasn't that good is getting you in trouble. Just because some people are unrealistic about her doesn't mean she was some sort of bum. She was pretty damn good.
